If you haven’t already heard, the creator of Spongebob, Stephen Hillenburg, passed away on Wednesday. Over its 11 seasons and nearly 20 years of running, Spongebob has had an impact on many kids’ (and even adults’) lives, including mine. It was also a turning point for Nickelodeon as a channel, as its (both Spongebob’s and Nickelodeon’s) popularity grew over the years. Spongebob is now one of the most recognized characters, and that’s thanks to Stephen Hillenburg. So I ask you Lake Valorers, do you like/watch Spongebob? How much of an impact has it had on your life, if any? As I mentioned above, Spongebob has made a big impact on my life, more so than almost any other show. It was a show that, when I was younger, I could watch with all 4 of my siblings together, something that shocked my mom, as there is a 7 year gap between my oldest and youngest siblings. Now my sisters aren’t all that interested, but I still am. I’ve made so many references to it and quoted it so many times. I’ve even made many friends because of it. It’s funny and witty, and it appeals to both kids and adults. It has even made 2 movies, and they’re in the process of making a third one. The show has left a legacy on Nickelodeon and animation, not to mention countless children’s lives. It is for this reason that I was shocked to hear the news that he passed away. As sad as I am to hear that he is gone, I can’t help but be proud of his work and the legacy he has left. As for the show itself, I love the first 5 seasons and the first movie. Seasons 6-8 I don’t like as much, but they’re not unwatchable. Seasons 9-11, and the second movie, I don’t like, because of the new animation style, and I didn’t think the second movie lived up to the first. My favorite episode, as no surprise to many fans, is Band Geeks because it is funny, and Sweet Victory is a good song. Also I am a band geek now so I love this episode even more.
Now that's what I call bad news. Rest in Peace, Stephen. Your work shall stay remembered forever. Spongebob has also made a big impact on my life. When I was younger I waited for Spongebob to come on every evening. My friends and I are still making Spongebob references every day, it's just something that everybody knows and everybody finds funny. Whenever I'm zapping through the TV program and see Spongebob on I can't help but watch it. Up to this day it still makes me laugh. The jokes are really memorable and just never really die out, they're hilarious in every situation. I agree with what you said about the show itself, the earlier seasons were way better. I also feel like the newer seasons have a way duller humor. Maybe it's just me, though.
