    Welcome to the Spooky Catch-A-Thon! Are you interested in catching wild Pokémon on Lake Valor? Do you like spooky Pokémon? Halloween? Then we hope you'll consider participating in what will likely be a recurring, annual event during our Oktoberfest season!

    How does it work?
    ​
    For this event, you will be tasked with capturing wild Pokémon fitting the spooky & Halloween theme. Eligible Pokémon are outlined below. Each capture is worth a set amount of points. Each time you catch an eligible Pokémon, please post in this thread letting us know what Pokémon you caught, its point value (listed below), what date it was caught on, and your total number of points. This will be verified at the end of the event.

    For example:

    You may only nickname Pokémon caught during the duration of this event if the species name is kept in its nickname.

    Pokémon may be repeated. You are not limited to catching just one of each.

    Note that only first forms and Pokémon that do not evolve are eligible. This makes it easier to calculate point values at the end of the event. Those spooky evolved forms are sitting by, watching their children have fun playing hide-and-seek with you members!

    Prizes​

    This event will come to a close on October 28th at 11:59PM EST.

    The participant with the most amount of points will receive a grand total of 50 PokéPoints. Second place will receive 25 PokéPoints. Third place will receive 10 PokéPoints.

    All participants will receive 5 PokéPoints by the end of the event.

    On a side note, I think there are quite a few other Pokémon that could be added to the list of eligible options. Just to name a few off the top of my head:
    • Hoothoot (Owls are a popular Halloween motif)
    • Rotom (Ghost type, not to mention the Poltergeist vibes)
    • Woobat (Zubat and Noibat are included, so might as well let the fluffy bat join as well)
    • Vullaby (Vultures? Bones? Death? Speaks for itself :P)
    • Darkrai (Master of nightmares and spookiness. Could probably be 3 points)
    • Espurr (Cats are popular in Halloween ans spooky cat is spooky)

    You can repeat Pokémon, yes!

    If you nickname but keep the species name, yes, it is totally okay. As long as species name is kept somewhere so I can do a proper count by the end.

    As far as point values: You’re right that Spiritomb could be worth a little more than just two haha, hadn’t remembered how tedious getting one was. Will raise it to 3 (similar to the event Halloween mons). Do you think this is fair?

    Will also add your suggestions. Had not realized I missed some Pokémon.

    Thank you all for the feedback. ^_^ This is our first time hosting this so I expected there to be some issues, so I’m glad for the feedback.

    Will raise point value of legendaries to 5, so they value higher than Pokémon like Spiritomb (as is fair).

    If you nickname a Pokémon, say, ‘Spoopy,’ it’ll be hard for me to do the final count to verify captures since I’ll be verifying using the search function to search the species and counting all Pokémon caught during the event that way. So I’d prefer if you didn’t nickname them at all or left their species name in the nickname. So for example, nicknaming something ‘(Halloween) Gastly #1’ is okay since Gastly is still in its nickname.

    I have a question: I saw that one of the Root Seeds was able to grow into Phantump from someone else's buddy. Do seed-grown Phantump not count? And if so, how can you tell if it was seed-grown or not?

    Seed grown ghosts count, yes! Only seeds obtained this month will be able to sprout into either Pumpkaboo or Phantump, so it’s no issue telling which ones are eligible, since we will see the caught date, which will be in line with the event rules.

    Evolved forms sadly do not count! It’s hard to calculate their values given how much more common they are this season, I unfortunately did not have time this year to get this calculated beforehand. Adding them at this point would make it a bit unfair for those who skipped them thinking they did not count (same goes for Alolan Meowth haha). Next year things should be different! It’s our first time hosting this so I’m happy you’re all helping iron out details =) We’ll figure out how to handle Missingno. next time too.
