Who is your favorite comedian and why? What kind of comedy do you usually listen too? What types do you dislike?

My top the comedians are probably Jeff Dunham, Gabriel Iglesias, and Daniel Tosh. The biggest reason I like these the is because they don't tell the same jokes everyone else does. A lot of other comedians come up with a lot of the same stuff all the time. Whether it's about food, how pathetic they are, and a lot of other stuff. I've Horton sick of it, but these guys manage to come up with something different. Rarely do I hear something sounding like everyone else. As for type of comedy, I don't have a particular favorite. Though I do tend to avoid comedians who tell jokes through songs.

Generally I dislike a lot of big comics mostly for the reasons you said above (including 2 and a half out of three that you mentioned). They find their thing that reaches their laughs-per-minute quota, and they do that thing over and over again. Just look at that redneck quartet: you might be a redneck if they call you tater salad but get 'er done because that's your sign. I'll say the same thing about Jeff Dunham (sorry): how many times do we have to hear "I keel you" from the Muslim stereotype, the weird sucking sound from the African-American stereotype, "Si Senor" from the Mexican stereotype, and "dumbass" from cranky white-American stereotype? The same thing over and over again and by the time you see the third TV special (when these comics should be more aware of their own repeat material), you think they'd have some new jokes ready.

(note: I'm not completely bashing on Dunham. I do think he's one of the most skilled ventriloquists of today if not of all time, and I am astounded by his ability to work two puppets in three voices and two languages simultaneously. Positively astounding, but he could expand his repertoire.)

One kind of comedy I dislike, and I'll have to use Dunham as an example again, is using stereotypes that run counter to what is socially acceptable given the groups of which the comedian is a part. Here's Jeff Dunham with his black, Arabian, Mexican, gay, etc stereotypes telling jokes about these other people. If he didn't also have that white-hillbilly stereotype, I'd be like "what the eff, dude, you can't make fun of your own culture?". It doesn't seem right, only telling jokes at the expense of people of a less-advantaged place in society, like picking on someone smaller than you. It's really hard to quantify and clearly identify the algorithms for what cultural identities are fair game from comedians from certain cultural identities, but I try to play it safe and only tell jokes at the expense of groups I'm also a part of. Calling Pokémon players nerds or giving slang nicknames to straight people, like "breeders". Sure. Will I make fun of people who play Magic cards or tell gay jokes? No way, bruh. I'm not going to do that.

Aside from all that... my favorite stand-up comedians tend to be small-time. You go to a local comedy night, and there are bound to be some duds, some ripoffs, but there's also a good chance of finding something never seen before. And that is some of the best laughing you can get sometimes. Even if, on its own, it's not incredibly funny or doesn't make sense under scrutiny, the sheer unanticipated nature of jokes of a new nature and from a new source cause some of the best real laughs I've ever had. And it's good to be able to see a big comedian and be able to say "I saw you before you were famous! This is awesome!"
