So, I was writing my story, and came up to a part in which the main protagonist is separated from her Pokémon, and has to avoid Team Magma as she attempts to escape the Magma Hideout. And that got me thinking...

Do you think a proper stealth section would be interesting to see in a Pokémon game?

The set-up wouldn't need to be too complicated. Pokémon Gales of Darkness already knocked out the protagonist, and all you'd need to do is take their Pokémon and store them somewhere in the hideout. Then you'd escape (the villainous teams were never known for being smart), sneak past all the Grunts, find your Pokémon, and then lash back against the grunts (which, depending on how self aware the game is, or something similar, could have rather low level Pokémon). It might make for an interesting part of the game.

EDIT: I don't think making 'XD' an emoticon was a good idea when there's a game going by that moniker.

I think it'd be interesting, but I don't think it'd ever be apart of the main Pokémon games. Maybe in a spin-off sometime. Maybe.

I think Nintendo may find the idea of stealth too difficult for their younger players in the main series. If they can't find their way out [without getting caught], they may become discouraged and never pick the game back up, y'know? At least when they lose to a gym leader or some other sort of battle, they're able to go elsewhere and train up and try again with better chances. Unless Nintendo made the stealth parts incredibly easy (which might be annoying to older players), I don't think it'll happen. Besides, we already kind of have some "stealth": Sneaking up on Pokémon rustling in the grass!

I think stealth could be properly used in a Ranger game, though. Better yet, let's get a Pokémon Officer game and use stealth to bust the bad guys! Sneak into places, go undercover, etc. That'd be cool to see!

I think this has some real potential. The way I would execute it is thus: Similarly to how the hero infiltrated Team Rocket in HGSS, they could again infiltrate the next badguy team, except to further complete the illusion beyond just a disguise, is given rental/gift Pokémon typically used by the baddies (replacing the challenge of avoidance with a handicapped (?) team). Maybe even while fighting off some of your allies and partners from before? I remember in DPPT you teamed up (even if just momentarily) with like four other trainers throughout your adventure, and what if instead of working with them, you had to fight them off to keep up your disguise?

On the other hand, in a grid-like system like Pokémon tends to have, actual stealth wouldn't be too hard. I'm thinking something along the lines of infiltrating the Deku Palace in Zelda MM. Predictable patrols, easy opaque cover, and the top-down view advantage. Like Vanillite said above, that might still be too hard for some younger players, so it could be possible to implement a Plan B to get out of it. Give the player the option that if they can't get through the optional challenge, they'll miss out on some kind of a bonus, but whatever, at least they get to progress.

I really love this idea. It sounds really interesting to me, and I'd hope they pick it up and implement it. It might make room for a more adult storyline, something along the lines of the vibes Black and White gave us. It also kind of reminds me of the Zero Suit portion of Metroid: Zero Mission, which is honestly one of the best parts of the game to me.

This is an excellent idea, GF should definitely capitalize on it, as it has a lot of potential. Sadly, GF doesn't know what is best for them and they won't do it, but I will speculate anyways because it's a cool idea. When stealth missions are done well in games, then they can be some of the best levels in any game, period. However, there are some games that are just not meant to be stealth games, and they try a little bit too hard to be. This is the first thing that comes to my mind. If Pokémon decides to add stealth, then it could go really wrong, I just hope it doesn't. I like the rest of the ideas in this thread, and I'm not any sort of expert on stealth games.

Another inspiration I had was watching Pokémon speedruns. They already have the basics of stealth-based gameplay- avoiding rotating trainers. All Game Freak really needs to do is design a space that makes avoiding the rotating trainers more difficult and/or intuitive, and offering some incentive for avoiding the battles.

Now I'm wondering whether I'd want a dark reason, like Cobalt, or an optional minigame, to make the main game easier for kids to understand.

Doesn't ORAS have stealth gameplay with the Dexnav???? In all seriousness though, I can't really see this happening in a main series game as a core gameplay element. A stealth based spin off would be cool, but unlikely. They could also add a minigame with stealth elements to a main series game.

I think the concept and idea of this topic is really cool and promising. The main character in every single game mostly watches other peoples Pokémon get stolen. Examples:
    HG/SS: The slowpoke well incident.
B&W: Bianca's munna was stolen, and then in B2 & W2 a little girls Pokémon was stolen.
These are both only some of the examples, and shows what i was saying. The main character never had his/her Pokémon stolen, and this stealth mode can be totally a cool addition and can make the new event which fans have been asking for for the 20th anniversary happen. Nice thoughts!
