This can be for Halloween costumes or cosplay, but how do you like to go about handling your dressing up? Do you buy the entire ensemble online? Do you make the whole thing from scratch? Or do you look around for pieces that are close enough to what you are going for and make the rest? Me, I definitely do both. Like, this latest costume (both a cosplay and a Halloween costume) I bought the pants, tunic-like dress, and fur leg-warmers that I need, but I'm making the accessories (an eye-patch, machete, and scarf) by hand. I'm curious as to how other people go about doing this.
I’d prefer to make my own costumes, as they’ll generally come out nicer. Like, a Mario costume I wore as a kid was jsut awful now that I think about it. It may cost more, but a decent mario costume would be timberlands, denim overalls, red sweatshirt, and a Mario style hat
I prefer to get mine custom-made online. I'm not good at putting together costumes and I'd rather not just buy one from the store. Also I practically have unlimited options when I do that.
I think custom-made is probably going to be a lot better than store-bought, to be honest. It allows you to cosplay better, even though I don't do Halloween costumes.
I'd say buy materials from the store and make the costume on your own, though I'll probably never do that because I don't usually wear costumes for Halloween, or cosplay in general.
I usually just pick up a bunch of random costume components from different places and then combine them all together. I don't do handmade things very often, but I guess I kind of make my own.
I don't think I've ever worn a wholly storebought costume; in past Halloweens my brother and I have generally (with the help of our parents) constructed costumes by modifying things we've bought. It feels illegitimate to wear something that you didn't even contribute to a little bit.
I used to have my mom make my costumes, but in resent years I've mostly just reuse the old costumes that I still have.
