The new trailer for XY was released today, and in the trailer is no new content, but I found something to speculate over. In this screenshot from the trailer, we have a horde battle that shows 4 Oorotto and 1 Sudowoodo. While comparing them, their designs and coloring are extremely similar, so is it possible that Sudowoodo will evolve into Oorotto??

I think we can expect Oorotto to be an evolution for Sudowoodo, but what does everyone else think of this?

Seems logical and possible, however...if he isn't an evolution, then his appearance looks creepy so maybe he is a grass/ghost type, it would be pretty interesting and give it some defense against bugs.

I don't think that Oorotto will be an evolution of Sudowoodo, since Oorotto is meant to be an uprooted tree stump. It does make sense since they have a similar design and colour scheme, but look at Luvdisc and Amomola.

Honestly I think they are unrelated, and Sudowoodo appearing in a swarm with them is more like an in-game joke, because it's a fake tree that wants to be a real tree so badly that is tagged along. Which is funny.

That seems plenty logical to me that there's be a Sudowoodo with the Oorotto. What better way would Sudowoodo have trying to pass as a tree than by hanging out with a bunch of trees?

I don't think it's an evolution though. Sudowoodo was that tree that wasn't a tree. It seems like Sudowoodo's entire concept would be destroyed if it were to evolve into an actual tree.

I would hope a supposed evolution of Sudowoodo would continue the green-spheres-for-leaves motif both Sudowoodo and Bonsly have goin' on.

Also I read somewhere that Oorotto was confirmed to have a Fire weakness in that video? I haven't actually watched it myself.

It makes sense they'd use Flareon against a bunch of Grass Pokémon, so I assume that it's going to be a Grass type too. (Even though Flareon has hardly any fire moves huehue)

Yeah I find that quite ironic, strange to use a Fire Pokémon that is that well-known for it's fire-type moves. I don't think Oorotto will be a possible evolution from Sudowoodo though because if it's supposedly grass-type (supported by it being attacked by a fire-type Pokémon) it shares no connection to that of Sudowoodo which is a rock-type. Although their appearances are similar, I don't think they will be related. Like Dioma said, Sudowoodo is just trying to fit in.

I agree because the entire concept is him being a fake tree, its even in his name; pseudo=fake and woodo=wood.

Well Sudowoodo, albeit it has the fun personality tied in, is actually based on petrified wood, which is fossilized tree (thus, Rock-type). If you look at Oorotto, it is missing a lot of bark around its body, and it being uprooted (the legs are roots) could symbolize that the tree fell over, and the dark vibe surrounding it (tell me if you don't feel like it must be Dark or Ghost) could represent how it basically died, and then became a petrified plant.
It also has three branches going off the top of its head, while Sudowoodo has two, and around its wrists and on its head are loosely sphere-shaped leaves.

Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but I feel like there could definitely be a connection.

Oh and I watched the video, I thought it looked like they took less damage from (insert Fire-type attack here, most likely Overheat) than Sudowoodo did. Watch the new trailer on Serebii's homepage, pause it,, and go to 1:15, which is right after Flareon does the attack and you see the HP bars and the lost health. They are all the same level, 25, and Sudowoodo took a lot more damage than all the Orotto did.

I could sorta see where you're coming from with that but they could just have good special defense or high hp because sudowoodo has shit special defense.

I want oorotto to be a grass/ghost type. I am a HUGE fan of unique or rare type combinations. And since we've been getting a ton in this generation, I doubt they would give this Pokémon a generic type.

My brother and I were discussing this a couple days ago. It's quite possible given the similar resemblance, however no other information on it has been released other than it's Japanese name and the image of it in-game.

We'll just have to wait and see to be sure.

I'm not sure Sudowoodo would evolve into Oorotto. The Sudowoodo line has, so far, used this circle things as 'leaves'. It would be such a weird thing that its evo wouldn't stick to the theme. Though, it could be a funny story that, with Sudowoodo being so sick of not bein recognized as tree that he killed himself and turned into Oorotto. But then again, this would be too morbid to put in a Pokémon game. Aaah, I wish Oorotto would be a Grass/Ghost type.
