@BraviaryScout (Rated E10+) Nestled within the mountains of Kalos is Camp Lumiere, a sprawling campground for aspiring trainers and young trainers to bond with their Pokémon, as well as games, sports, arts and crafts, performances, and more. While camp sessions are held all year round, the summer sessions are arguably the most popular sessions, with two week sessions held from mid-May to early September. While the price to attend the camp is reasonable (and scholarships are available for lower-income families), it is encouraged to sign up early, as sessions fill up quickly. One of the camp's best loved traditions is the camp name--a fun nickname that reflects some aspect of the camper's personality. While at camp, you are encouraged to call everyone by their camp name--even the staff, counselors, and counselors in training have one. Our story concerns two young trainers heading to the camp for the summer--will this be the best summer ever for them? Or will it be a summer of pure torture?
@BraviaryScout The enthusiastic rendition of "99 Bottles of Juice on the Wall" came to a stop at 66 bottles as the bus pulled up to the council house of Camp Lumiere, allowing the kids off to check in and receive their camp names and cabin assignments
@WavePearl The lines were fairly long at the desks as the crazy amounts of kids continued to trickle out from additional buses arriving. The summer air was slightly warm, but the rising sun foretold its merciless presence to bake the ground. Ayesha wiped a bead of sweat off her brow as she stood in line, not bothering to partake in the excited conversations with those around her. She adjusted the straps on her backpack and moved forward as the waiting slowly progressed.
@BraviaryScout Luckily, the lines moved quickly. "Hi there!" a counselor smiled at Ayesha. "What would you like your camp name to be? Keep in mind that once you pick a camp name, you're stuck with it!"
@WavePearl Ayesha shrugged, "What am I supposed to come up with?" "It's totally up to you. Do something that defines you. What's your favorite thing to do at home?" She shrugged, "I don't know. My name means lively." "There you go! Use something like lively!" "Sure," Ayesha said, not really caring to argue that her name definitely didn't suit her well.
@BraviaryScout The counselor wrote Lively on a nametag and stuck it on Ayesha's shirt. "Go on in the council house--the welcome assembly is about to start." "You'll be in Fire cabin 9." another counselor told her
@BraviaryScout "If you wish." the counselor replied. The council house fills up quickly, facing a stage and screen that depicts the message "Welcome Campers!" (in this universe the Pokémon Showcase does not exist--Serena was a coordinator to start with, and has earned the nickname "The Kalos Queen" on the contest circuit for her skill and grace)
@WavePearl (You're free to take control of one of the campers if need be. Just try to keep them in character) Ayesha held a Poké Ball in her hand, scanning for a place to sit. A lot of space on the many benches were filling quickly and everyone talking had already put her even more of a solitary mood. She just hoped that if she was stuck with a bunking partner that they weren't overly obnoxious. Another voice piped up behind her, "Not really a fan of crowds?"
@BraviaryScout The lights flash a five minute warning, prompting the excited chatter to quiet. Then, excited whispers wafted through the crowd as a familiar black haired boy in a blue and white outfit arrived on the stage and gently tapped the mic. "Check, testing...everything okay up there, Wingnut?" He smiles back at the blonde haired boy operating the sound and lights, confirming that the sound and lights are working properly. "Hello, and welcome to another summer session at Camp Lumiere!" Cheers filled the air as a dull blonde haired girl joined the boy onstage. "How many are here for the very first time?"
@WavePearl Although Ayesha didn't care for group centric activities such as this orientation, she did raise her hand eagerly as did a number of others. "ME!" One of the younger girls yelled. "I AM!"
@BraviaryScout Hands went up across the room. "Whether you're here for the very first time, or been here many times, we hope your time here will be a summer to remember." the girl smiled.
@WavePearl This did catch Ayesha's attention, although the chorus of cheers rang out across the audience. It lasted for a few moments before dying down and eager eyes awaiting what else was to be said.
@BraviaryScout (fast fowarding for a minute) You next learn that your host and hostess are superstar trainer Ash Ketchum and Kalos Grand Coordinator Serena Lacroix--and that they started the camp as a way for young trainers to learn, grow, and play with Pokémon before setting out on adventures of their own. (that, and they needed a break from traveling) With help from some of Ash's and Serena's closest companions, the camp opened two years ago, and it has been popular ever since. Then they tell you their camp names--Boss Thunderbolt (Ash) and Lumidori (Serena)
@WavePearl After suddenly recognizing the two speakers, many of the other kids began to talk amongst themselves and several were already blurting out questions full of adoration. Ayesha saw a few of them that hadn't joined in the frenzy raise their hands. She did likewise.
@BraviaryScout Ash and Serena did answer a few questions, but just as Serena finishes explaining about the camp names, she notices a boy and a girl carrying the Kalos League flag and the camp flag--a blue triangle and a green triangle connected by an eight point star (with a five point star inside it. "All rise, and remove your hats, as we honor our League and the camp."
@WavePearl (If you want, I will come up with a brief oath that is said during the summer camp) Far on the other side of the room, Emile couldn't stop the smile breaking out onto his face as the camp's flag was being carried in by the "honor guard" Although this was his second year, he had already qualified to apply becoming one in the near future. Campers who had partaken in the flag ceremonies would have special pins to wear on the small rank sashes. Emile and a couple of his friends were close to the front where the flag was going to be placed. He knew here, there was a small oath said that Camp Lumiere lived by and had instantly gained recognition for improving the lives of many kids.
@BraviaryScout (Let's just leave the pledge and what the anthem sounds like to the imagination) After the pledge was said, the group watched as Ash took a silver trumpet and started playing the Kalos League anthem, "Eight Shining Stars" as the flags were put on the flagpole and hoisted--the League flag on top, and the camp flag on the bottom.
@WavePearl (That's fine by me) All the campers cheered when all of the flags had reached the top. The honor guard tied them off and retreated back to their stations. It was a simple act, but Ayesha actually liked the tradition. Lumiere was officially open. The groups began to disperse moments later as they headed back to their cabins. Overhead, the sun began to set in the distance and she immediately realized that she didn't know where her own quarters were. She reached to her side for the flashlight. Her hand felt nothing there.
@BraviaryScout (There's still a little more info you need to learn before you go to the cabins) Cheers fill the air and Ash takes a bow. Since he has the trumpet out, he proceeds to demonstrate the common calls--Reveille is at 8 AM, mess call is at 9, noon, and 6 PM, mail call is at 3 PM, and Taps is at 10 PM, as well as the call for assembly, the fire call for emergencies, and "To Arms" should the (unlikely) need to defend the camp arise.
