Do you have any tattoos? If so, what are they? Are there any tattoos that you would like to get? What is your opinion on tattoos, are they ugly?

I don't have any tattoos and I don't plan on it. The two main reasons are that I don't like needles, and I don't want something imprinted permanently in my skin that I might not want in 50 years when it will look pretty ugly. While tattoos may look kinda cool in the present, I'm just thinking about the future. However, if people want to get tattoos, then get tattoos!

There's 3 main reasons why I wouldn't get a tattoo, the first being I wouldn't want it to affect any future career opportunities. The second being I don't really see the point, I mean if there's something you really care about or a message you want to get across to people, surely there's a better way of doing that than injecting an image in to your skin. And thirdly, people change. I'm sure looking back 20 years from now I would consider it a mistake.

Don't get me wrong, I love tattoos. It's a form of art and it takes serious skill, and generally I think they look quite cool. They're just not for me though :P

Honestly, I'm probably getting a tattoo the day I turn 21. I'd prefer something typically hidden/unnoticeable, like some sort of small, positive reminder to myself. I wouldn't want to get one too early on, though.

That's changing rapidly though. Tattoos and other non-traditional appearance choices (unusual piercings, non-conservative hairstyles) are rapidly becoming more acceptable in more career fields. True, it can still get in the way if you're in a public role where you represent may other people, such as a PR professional, business owner (of most business types), or government official; but no longer are the inked among us stuck in warehouses, motorcycle shops, and piercing huts.

I have a running list of ideas of things I want to get inked, last seriously considered maybe a year or two ago, and the main thing holding me back is that I'm not at my personal bodytype goal. I'd like to put on ~25 pounds of muscle first to avoid weird stretching later down the line. Most of the ideas I do have though are things I've liked for a long time and hold meaning for me. Sheet music for the Elegy of Emptiness, some particular styling of a pentagram, a center-gradient blue serifed X tattoo on the right shoulder for Mega Man X (who I like more than Zero (who has a Z on his left shoulder), and yes, I have liked these videogames and their motif since I was like six years old and I'm not about to outgrow it). I've had at least a dozen other ideas too, most of which I've since said "never mind" and am glad I waited. Big, permanent decision, patience and forethought is key.

One I really want but, for the reasons stated above by Reborn, is probably too noticeable, is a snake wrapped around one of my arms, elbow to hand. I think I'd want it to be close-mouthed with the bottom of its head against the back of my hand, as opposed to fangs bared, but either way the hand is in the same category as the neck and face as being some of the more socially obstructive areas for tattoos to be placed.

I want three tattoos: A triforce, batman symbol and a panda (maybe still unsure about that one). Been planning those for awhile but I'll probably never go through with it considering I hate needles...plus the fact that tattoos can be extremely expensive..

I don't have any tattoos, but I want some. I really want a tattoo of a dragon on my back going down my spine. I also want one with the Cheshire Cat smiling and one of its quotes, either "imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality," "I'm not crazy, my reality is just different than yours," or "You may have noticed that I'm not all there myself." I can't decide

I'm actually getting a tattoo in about two weeks. March is going to be a huge month for me, in many regards. I'll be getting a tattoo, my name will legally be changed, I'll be starting school again, and I'm planning on starting my novel series.

For those interested in what my tattoo will look like:

My grandad had loads of tattoos, two whole sleeves. This probably explains why I love the idea of having a tattoo so much. If and when I do get one I'll be getting a small one, probably on my ankle or shoulder. For designs, I was thinking a flower or a bird, something nice and easy.

When and if I have kids I'll be getting their names tattooed on my upper arm like my grandad and mum have done with me and my brother.

I'd like to get one, of course. I think tattoos are a really creative and interesting form of self-expression, and if you want one, fucking go for it. I don't have any solid ideas right now, but I think if I was forced to get one, I'd probably get a Taurus symbol. It's my star sign, and it's never gonna change, so I can't REALLY regret the idea behind it, right?

I honestly don't dislike tattoos, there's some pretty cool ones out there, but I know that I'll personally never be getting one. It's not really because of the tattoos themselves, it's more that I have a really really harsh fear of needles. I find myself starting to hyperventilate just seeing them half the time, and getting a shot pretty much always makes me pass out. So having to have even a tattooing needle on me would just be a nightmare for me with that phobia. :wry:

Despite being really scared of needles, I am getting a tattoo next month! Both my parents have them, and since I was a kid I always kind of liked the idea of it. This particular tattoo I've thought about for a long time, and my mom is paying for it as a late christmas present!

It's gonna be a penguin, and my reasoning behind it, besides it being my favourite animal, is that no matter how hard penguins fall or howfar they're set back, they keep going, which is something I sometimes do need to remind myself to do =w=

For anyone interested, this is what it'll look like

It'll go on the inside of my left arm, just below my wrist so it's easy to look at =w=b

More tattoos will probably come in the future, but I'll first try to survive this one before making that decision for sure =w=

As much as tattoos are beautiful and may or may not say a message, I don't see myself getting one. You see all these people regretting their tattoos and having to go through a lengthy process to get rid of it. I don't want to make a mistake like that. I'll stick to my pen ink tattoos, thank you very much.

The way I view the subject, tattoos are a way to express one's self. They can also be reminders, proclamations about beliefs, or just sayings about past experiences. Regardless, they are essentially windows or viewpoints into one's soul.

Tattoos, like many other ways of self-expression, are ways that we want other people to know us or view about us. There are many ways that people choose to express themselves or make themselves known to others. On their own, they are a neutral entity. They are tools, like so many other things we use. Their strength lies in the will of the wielder.

Self-expression is something I'm very rigid about, and allow myself to be known in very specific ways. Because of this, and how I choose to relate to other people (and also how I allow them to relate to me), tattoos become unnecessary. You will learn much more about me in a conversation than any tattoo could accurately express. Granted, they can function as nice conversation starters, but I prefer to listen, rather than talk.

Also, time and money. I have to ration that very strictly. So there's that too.
