All governments enforce taxes upon their citizens. Some examples in the US include:
    • Income tax
    • Property tax
    • Gas tax
    • Unemployment tax
    • Sales tax
    • Tariffs
    • Many more
The argument for taxes usually falls under the lines of providing nationwide protection and services for the citizens of a country that the nation's markets cannot or do not provide. Generally, taxes aren't raised because no one likes higher taxes (except the government).

The argument against taxes is fairly simple: taxes are barriers to a truly competitive market and lessen the wealth of all people they are inflicted upon. Those against taxes usually agree they serve an important role in all governments, but they also say taxes need to be minimal.

What is your opinion on taxes?

The US has to much debt to lower taxes, but raising them would cause riots, so they shouldn't change them, at least for a while.

Income, Corproate, Property, and other forms of this taxation is theft. Do we need taxes? Well, obviously. We need some sort of public structure (Infrastructure, Military, Law Enforcement etc). Certain issues, like education and healthcare should be controlled by the private sector, because historically, both those things were most financially stable. Now, 90% of our college students are in debt by the time they graduate, and ACA has forced private insurance companies to more or less protest and charge their patients double or triple the price of a doctor's visit or a particular type of medication (in some cases, they won't cover a medicine at all). On top of it all, the suffering taxpayer has to be pay Obama's stupid healthcare act "fees" (AKA a tax). I'm wandering off onto a completely different subject, so I'll just get to the point.

The ONLY tax that I find acceptable is a consumption (sales) tax, whether is be at a Local, State, or Federal level. When you pay an income tax, the government is robbing you of what's rightfully yours, against your own will. You see, with a sales tax, you're actually putting your tax dollars into something you want to invest in. It urges people to be less reluctant and actually go out to spend their money, therefore making the economy circulate, resulting in more growth economic growth. Wanna know why so many of our jobs are overseas? Because we have the second highest corporate tax rate in the world. Couple that with the ridiculous income and property tax rates, and the wealthy aren't so wealthy anymore, which is why they cannot afford to hire American workers. Without this hindrance in the way, jobs would quickly flock back to America, and full-time unemployment would be at an all-time low. With a Federal Consumption tax rate of 5-10%, we would do fine. In addition, each registered voter at the end of each year should have the right to choose what they want their tax dollars spent most on (A top 3 priority list, if you will). Since nothing but a Sales tax would be in place, everyone would be eligible to vote for what the tax dollars are spent on, because regardless if you did have a job or not, there would have to be at least ONE time within a year's span that you purchased something from a store/business. Even the homeless make several purchases a year from stranger tips/donations in order to eat, buy clothes, and other goods in order to maintain survival.

I'm open to any debates or arguments on this topic.

I do get why we need takes, I do, stabilizing most of America is what the government tries to do, at least. But the one thing that I cannot deal with the most is; me visiting my father at his military job, and seeing the weight room that was paid with my tax payer money, being used as a lounging area where soldiers watch t.v. on. Because if that wasn't the case, I'd be damned to see any one of them lift a chair to put away to use a treadmill.

If that is just a very small part of what the government and military use with money like that, it makes me wonder what other poppycock they use the money for other than raising debt.

I don't mind paying taxes for schools and such, but sometimes it does get ridiculous. I'm not a fan of paying for welfare (I am fine with paying into SSI, as that's for the older folks). I know for some people, it's needed, but people abuse it. It pisses me off when I see someone who doesn't work a day in their lives eat better than I do when I work 80+ hours a week.

Well, taxes do help the government to improve infrastructure and fund social welfare programs and such (supposedly) what I mostly disagree with is how the wealthy get tax breaks.
It doesn't make sense, they can afford it, so they should pay taxes, it would really help. Yet it's always the poor and the middle class who are slammed. One could say it's a contributing factor to why the middle class is disappearing and the rich get richer, because of all the breaks they get.
    Tax corporations, tax the rich.
