This happened a little bit ago, but after the release of her new album, 1989, Taylor Swift pulled all of her music from Spotify, a free and legal music streaming service. In her own words, "I'm not willing to contribute my life's work to an experiment that I don't feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music. And I just don't agree with perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free."

Her record label president, Scott Borchetta, has agreed, saying "Music has never been free. It's always cost something and it's time to make a stand and this is the time to do it."

What do you think about her decision? Do you agree with their viewpoints? They hope this will prompt other artists to follow suit; do you think it will?

I'm curious to see what you guys think about this.

I agree with her, but this is certainly a bit of an inconvenience to me. Also, you can easily rip a VEVO video into an mp3 onto your computer, which is just as free. So her next step should be NO VEVO x3

Jamming to Bad Blood will be hard :c

In my opinion, music should be available to everyone regardless of whether they pay or not. Her saying it devalues music is completely wrong, in fact she's putting a price tag on hers. I understand that she needs to be compensated, but no matter how unfair, at least she gets some money from Spotify instead of people pirating her music.
I honestly hope other artists do not follow suit, everyone has a right to enjoy music, even if some don't agree.

I agree with her, think about the time and effort it actually takes to compose a piece of music it's not always that simple, and then you have to write the lyrics, it's the song writer that makes most of the money from the music industry for that reason. In a way I can contradict her reason that music shouldn't be free, it should be free to enjoy, but at a scale. There's not really a right or wrong answer to this. Music does have value it's the thing that keeps you sane, if we didn't have music the world will be very dull. In a way spotify can help advertise music and it also shows you when the artist is going to be in concert. I'm sure a lot of people purchase premium too. At the end of the day it's her decision and if it's stopping her from getting money then she'd have to stop writing music, get another job or remove her music from spotify.
