Spoiler: Event Rules Reminder - All LV rules apply - Planning can happen in your team's hub but the actual RP must happen in the Roleplay Institute - No Mary Sues or God-modding - Name the RP with the format of "Team's Name - Chosen Title" - Each post must be at least two sentences long - To qualify as a participant, you must post at least 6 times throughout the course of your RP - Your RP will be judged based on overall story, teamwork, creativity and team participation As Kyurem rampages across the countryside, many people have been left in the cold. Brycen, the former gym leader of Icirrus City, returned to help alleviate the coal shortage by overseeing the mining operations in Twist Mountain. Only a short time later, coal distribution came to a sudden halt. Any attempts to reach Brycen by xtransciever have failed and his whereabouts are currently unknown. Many miners are unaccounted for with the few who have managed to escape the mines suffering from severe frostbite and hypothermia. Rumors, though all so far unsubstantiated, have begun to circulate about strange creatures in the mines. With the Elite Four and Champion attempting to hold the line closest to Kyurem's rampage and the gym leaders of each city busy with defending their own towns from various dangers that have come about as a result of the mad dragon, word was sent out looking for brave and skilled volunteers capable of investigating Twist Mountain. Whether through a plea for help from a friend, a recommendation from a mentor, or other means, a number of trainers from various backgrounds have gathered from across the world to take on this challenge. With all of the usual routes to Twist Mountain being blocked off by ice, it's decided that the safest and most direct route would be to approach the destination from underground, through the Clay Tunnel. The team convenes for the first time by train in Nimbassa City before heading West to Driftveil. A gym trainer waiting at the city's entrance lets the team know that Clay is expecting to meet them at the gym at noon to guide them to the tunnel. There's about an hour before the meetup time for any last minute preparations. Backstory: Kalino was your average Alolan boy until he lost to one of the kahunas during the final trial at Mount Lanakila. He was so frustrated at that one defeat to the point of him joining Team Skull on a whim. That is, until Guzma disbanded the whole team. He then went back to his hometown at Paniola to help out at his family's nearby ranch. One day, one of his old friends who had been working as a miner in Unova after Team Skull's disbandment asked for his help to reclaim the coal mine he's working at. He wasn't sure at first, but then decided to help after being reassured by his Ninetales partners, Mako and Mio. Fortunately, his other friend from Skull who became a gadgeteer had already upgraded his Ride Pager beforehand, so he can call his Ride Pokémon even when he's not in Alola. Kalino then flew all the way to Unova on his Charizard ride. Pokémon: Mako (male Kantonian Ninetales) ; Kalino got him as an egg from a random breeder at Pokémon Nursery. Mio (female Alolan Ninetales) ; Kalino got her as an egg from a random breeder (not the same one who gave him Mako's egg) at Pokémon Nursery. All of the Alolan Ride Pokémon (Tauros, Stoutland, Charizard, Lapras, Sharpedo, Machamp, Mudsdale, Mantine) thanks to Kalino's access to his Ride Pager outside Alola. Spoiler: David Stone Name: David Stone Gender: Male Age: 23 Hometown: Solaceon Sinnoh Description: David is 5'8" with pale skin and black hair. While he knows the value of hard work, too much scholar work has left him a bit nonathletic. He typically wears sensible clothing of greens or blues, and sturdy hiking boots. Backstory: David was born in Solaceon Town, a small Sinnoh town near strange ruins. Many archeolgists, and other types of scientist came to their town trying to learn more about the ruins, and several of these were very kind to David, giving him a taste of the Ruin Maniac life. When he was old enough, he enrolled in one of the more prestigious schools, and left his Sinnoh home to live in Unova. Having finally graduated, this is his first non-school experience in his field and he is excited to help liberate the coal mines. Pokémon: Pachirisu: "Lacey" - Technically a starter, as it was his first Pokémon, the pachirisu lived near his home, and the two developed a strong bond when he was growing up. When David decided to leave home to study, he asked Pachirisu to join him. While Lacey was eager to come with, and she loves meeting new Pokémon, she isn't the strongest fighter. Still, when the chips are down, se will give it her all, and trust David to take care of the rest. Trapinch: "Chompy" - When David began his geological studies, he needed a Pokémon that could protect him from any ground Pokémon they might accidentally disturb. A school friend had some connections to a breeder, and he was able to obtain Chompy, and raise him from hatch. Chompy is shy and doesn't enjoy battling, so David works hard not to need his help any more than necessary. Spoiler: Claire Ferriss Name: Claire Ferriss Gender: Female Age: 25 Hometown: Rustboro City, Hoenn Description: Claire's fiery red hair is the first thing most people notice about her. Her teal eyes are usually the second. In contrast to those attributes and her spunky, upbeat personality, she chooses to dress in fairly plain colors - shades of white, brown, and black, with the occasional blue or red garment. She often wears dark brown cargo pants and reliable boots regardless of if she's in the field or not. Since she's heading to the suddenly-frigid Unova, she wears a heavy, brick red coat that features the Devon Corporation logo on the arms. Her backpack holds any equipment she might need. Backstory: Growing up in Rustboro City exposed Claire to the innovations of the Devon Corporation and nurtured a passion for science and technology. She found herself drawn to natural history and geology - learning about how the world around her came to be and the forces that influenced its development excited her more than most other topics in school. She'd always wanted to explore far-off places and study the natural wonders that awaited her. When the Devon Corporation posted an opening for an apprenticeship under a well-known geologist, Claire jumped at the chance. Her excellent academic record and fiery work ethic landed her the position. The work wasn't quite what she expected, but she embraced it all the same. Every moment in the field is a blessing for her. When her mentor got word of the recent events in Unova, he suggested that Claire join the group being organized to investigate a local coal mine in the region. He thought it would be an excellent independent field study. Claire agreed, and now she finds herself in Unova, eager to both help the situation however she can and to prove herself capable of independent research. Pokémon: -Brutus the Shelgon: Captured as a Bagon during a trip to Meteor Falls, Brutus is Claire's faithful - but not always helpful - companion. He rarely leaves Claire's side for long and is fiercely protective of her. Apparently not even the sky is safe from the cold either. Kalino and his Charizard ride found it the hard way upon getting closer to his miner friend's home at Icirrus. "What the..." Kalino moaned while thinking, I mean, seriously? This is even colder than Mount Lanakila. Charizard tried to get through it only to no avail despite them being a fire-type. Instead, the cold wind tossed them both to a big city. At an amusement park in the city, to be exact. "WAAAAAAH!!!!!" (The big city in question happened to be Nimbasa because what other cities in Unova have amusement parks?)
Rosie is walking through Join Avenue, braving the strong wind. Due to her lack of physical training, she makes little progress. “God, the wind is too strong.”Rosie thought, and decided it is best to go behind a counter or store to rest. Suddenly, an idea flashed in her head. “Why haven’t I thought of this.” She bring out her starter, Greninja, and start commanding, “Greninja! Use ice beam to create a wall!” And Greninja charges up an icy-blue energy is his mouth and shot it to the ground, near to where Rosie is hiding, making an ice wall Rosie quickly withdrew her starter and rushes towards the ice wall, fear it would crumble under the strong wind. She calls her starter out again and repeat the process. She now makes more progress every time she moves. Until she reached the other end of Join Avenue. She quickly left the tunnel and closed the enterance with a big ice wall. Now, arvive at Nimbasa, she is relieved and exhuasted. “It is much warmer than I thought it would be” and that’s the first comment on Nimbasa City
A little bit later, Kalino felt a nudge or two "begging" him to wake up. "Ugh..." he slowly opened his eyes to find a pale blue Ninetales worrying about him. "...Mio?" This particular Ninetales, whom he called Mio, was relieved upon hearing him calling her name. The two looked around while she's helping him to sit down. "Where... are we?" Kalino wondered. Seems like he had crash-landed in front of a ferris wheel. Not far from them were a golden-white Ninetales trying to wake Charizard up. Kalino, with Mio's assistance, stood up and went to them. "Mako! Charizard!" the auburn-turned-blue haired boy called. "You guys okay?" Mako, the golden-white Ninetales, nodded at Kalino, then turned to the bruised Charizard. He's clearly worried about them. "Charizard... thank you," Kalino gently petted his ride Pokémon. "Just rest up for now, okay?" he said while pulling out his Ride Pager. Charizard only nodded just before Kalino returned them to the ride Pokémon's home ranch. The boy and his two Ninetales then wandered around, not knowing where they are or whether they're close or far from Icirrus...
Though Claire wasn't in Unova to sight-see, when she first saw the Ferris wheel in Nimbasa City, she knew she had to indulge her inner tourist. Why not? From that height, she would find the train station she was supposed to meet up at in no time. She could be productive and enjoy herself at the same time! As she slowly rose into the sky, the number of people she saw out and about surprised her slightly. Even an artificial winter caused by a rampaging ice dragon didn't seem to slow the city down. The biting cold was still a nuisance, of course, and Claire was glad she brought her insulated jacket. When her car reached the top of the Ferris wheel, she began her search for the train station. She didn't get far before she got distracted by something falling from the sky. Is that a Charizard? she wondered. Wait... is someone riding it?! Claire saw the pair crash somewhere deeper in the amusement park. As much as she wanted to see if they were okay, the Ferris wheel only had one speed: painfully slow. By the time she reached the place of impact, she found the rider accompanied by two Ninetails, one Kantoan, one Alolan. The Charizard was nowhere to be seen. "Hey!" Claire called out to the young man. "You took a pretty nasty fall! Are you alright?"
"Ouch..." The fall's impact turned out to be worse than Kalino had expected. He wobbled while walking to the point of both Mako and Mio had to support him. And then he heard someone calling out to him. "Huh?" That "someone" was actually a redhead lady who looks like she's in her mid-twenties. Seems like she had already seen his crash-landing stunt earlier. "I..." Kalino stuttered. "Where am I?"
Rosie went to the Pokémon Center for some supply. After spending some of the pokedollars her mother gave her on potions and ethers, she goes and finds the location of the gym on a map in the Center. "So, it is at the amusement park, off to the east of the CIty."Rosie thought, then left the Center. As she walks to the park, she noticed 2 people and 2 Pokémon not far off from a Ferris wheel. Upon closer investigation, those pokemons are Ninetails, two different kinds of species of Ninetails. She recognizes the yellow one as her mother has one, but she doesn't recognize the blue one. She knows it is a Ninetails judging on the shape, but she never saw one that is blue in color. And the boy to be hurt, so she rushes towards those two. She heard what the boy said. "You are in Nimbassa City, Unova," she answered and noticed the boy is injured, judging by the way he stands, and his expression. "You are injured. You need some treatment to your wound"
"Nimbasa... Unova..." the boy said to himself. He noticed that the one answering his question was another lady. Unlike the first one, seems like this one is about his age. Before he could ask if Icirrus is closer or farther away from Nimbasa though, his wounds acted up again. "Ouch!" The two Ninetales did their best to support their trainer, but Mako found it a little bit harder because Kalino leaned more toward him this time. "You're right. This one hits me hard. Thank you, uh..." Kalino said, remembering that he didn't get to catch the ladies' names.
Nimbasa was swanky compared to Mathias' normal digs. He had spent the better part of the last couple of days prepping for the escort and guarding mission, so this was his first time really taking in the local sights. A white blanket of snow covered the busy town, muffling the sounds of other trainers and Pokémon. The snow weighed down his overly large backpack, he winced a bit and readjusted the straps. Mathias felt a blast of hot air to his right, melting away the bit of frost he had in his beard on that side. Vulcan, his Torkoal seemed in a huff about something and started stomping off towards the nearby amusement part. "I don't think we have time for a Ferris Wheel spin Vulcan!" the man called out after his Pokémon but the large tortoise Pokémon kept on walking, seemingly ignoring him. "Oh cmon you gruff!" Mathias calls out a bit louder now, picking up the pace after his Pokémon. He noticed some commotion in the distance. "hmm that might be the kids that were meant to arrive today...Good eye Vulcan."
Claire opened her mouth to answer the young man's question, but another stranger answered before she could. She initially thought he must've hit his head judging by his responses and inability to stand without the support of his Pokémon. Thankfully, those worries faded when he spoke later. She nodded in agreement with the other young woman's assessment: he definitely needed patched up. "I think there's a Pokémon Center nearby, they should be able to help you out," the redhead mused. Seeing his Pokémon struggle to support him, she offered her arm to steady the young man. "I'm Claire, by the way, and you are..?" She directed her question at both him and the other young woman who had approached.
"I'm Kalino," the blue-haired boy answered as he reached out to Claire's arm. He then steadied himself to relieve his Ninetales companions. "This is Mako and this is Mio," he pointed at the respective Ninetales while introducing them both. In response to it, Mako and Mio bowed to the ladies as their way of greeting them. "They're both Ninetales, but Mio is the Alolan one," Kalino continued. Shortly afterward, Mio noticed someone else heading their way. "Huh? What is it, Mio?" the boy asked his Alolan Ninetales. Mio still stared at that one way. Kalino then followed suit only to notice a man and his Torkoal heading their way.
"I'm Rosie. And did you say one of your Ninetails is an Alolan? What is that?" Rosie is confused, as she never heard of the term "Alolan", or any form changes that depend on the region. She noticed Kalino is looking towards her direction. "Is there something weird on my face?" Rosie asked.
"The thing is, I was born and raised in Alola," Kalino explained. He knew that it didn't really address Rosie's confusion, so he continued, "Some Pokémon living there may look different from their own kind living elsewhere. We call them Alolan Pokémon. I take it you haven't seen any Ninetales like Mio before?" Unbeknownst to them, Mako stepped toward the direction Mio had pointed out earlier. He simply passed by Rosie and walked toward the Torkoal from before.
Mathias happened upon the group as they walked up, he waved the small group over and shouted: "You lot must be the rest of the crew! I'm Mathias, I'm your escort!" Then feeling a bit silly for shouting this across an amusement park of all places so he picked up the pace and past Vulcan a bit, he could hear the tortoise huff in disapproval but he paid him no mind. He spoke up again, at a normal volume this time since he got close to the group: "Injuries already? Must of been quite an entrance. If you are having trouble on your feet I can carry you on my back till we get to the 'center. They've got medical staff holed up in there for both Pokémon and human folk, thieve been working 'round the clock since the blizzard hit, poor buggers must be knackered."
Mako stepped back as the Torkoal's trainer got closer to the group. He knew that the man didn't mean any harm, just... Arceus knows how he knew. As for Kalino, he hesitated to let go of Claire's arm, fearing that he would fall again. He sighed in response to Mathias' comment. "Well, yeah. I was on my way to Icirrus with my Charizard ride, but the wind was too strong that it threw me here, of all places," he awkwardly told everyone what just happened to him. "And speaking of Icirrus... how far are we from there?"
"It is quite far away. The quickest way is to go from Route 5. Pass Driftveil Drawbridge to Driftveil City. Go north to Clay Tunnel and pass Twist Mountain. And Twist Mountain currently is not a safe place. With that Dragon raging around, it is not safe to go either by air or on land" Rosie answered. She looks at Kalino. From her experience, she finds him just lost his strength due to the fall. He has no broken bones or anything bad, just some bruises, and temporarily lost in strength from the pain. "Well, he is fine. Just his fall caused him to have some bruises. It is not that serious, just lost most of his strength. If we allow him to rest for a bit, he can regain his strength and stand properly. But It would be wise to go to the Pokémon Center for a brief checkup to see any major injuries, like fractured bones." She said.
Considering his current state and with everyone suggesting to go to the Pokémon Center, it's not like Kalino could even complain about it. I mean, he won't be able to help his fellow ex-Team Skull friend in such a bad shape, so... "...yeah, you're right. Thanks, guys."
Crew? Escort? It took a moment for Claire to register Mathias' words. In the commotion, she'd forgotten why she was here in the first place. "Oh, you guys must be headed to Twist Mountain for that job too, then!" What a strange coincidence that they would all meet up here, in all places and under such circumstances. The use of the word "escort" bugged her, though. Was this job dangerous enough to warrant that kind of protection? In hindsight, it seemed quite obvious. Artificial winter, angry ice dragon roaming the region, a potentially unstable mine... They would need all the protection they could get. First things first, though. "Let's get you checked out, Kalino," Claire said. She gently urged the young man in the direction of the Pokémon Center.
Kalino nodded as Claire helped him to walk to the Pokémon Center with Mako and Mio following them. He also contemplated about whatever Mathias and Claire talked about while he's at it. Crew? Escort? Job? Heck, his number one info source of this whole mess in Unova came from that one friend who went from a Team Skull grunt to a miner at Twist Mountain... "Twist Mountain, huh?" Kalino wondered. "Actually, I'm not even sure if I'm being hired or what," he mused, not sure if it could pass as a response to Claire's musing just now. "My friend at Icirrus asked me to investigate whatever's happening at Twist Mountain. I swear he didn't even tell me about an official crew or anything like that. Is this really... a coincidence?"
David suddenly woke up. Bits of paper and dust sticking to his face. He had been trying to work on the strange rock samples coming out of the coal mine recently. It was all part of the strange chill that was taking over the whole region. His eyes focused on the clock over his desk. “oh no,” He thought, double checking, and then leaping from his chair. “I’m late,” he began stuffing papers and supplies into his bag. He was out his door before he remembered his Pokémon, and almost out of the building before he remembered his shoes. David quickly ran across the town, trying to remember exactly where he was supposed to meet the rest of the group. This whole investigation has been just a little confusing, and details hadn’t been forthcoming from those in charge. But it was work, and fresh graduates took what they could get. David was supposed to meet them all at the train station, but he end up turned around, and at the Pokémon center instead. Luckily he noticed a group of people moving towards the center. One of them matched the picture of the escort he was supposed to meet.
