What types do you think are most important to have in your team?

What combinations provide the best coverage? Allow the least weaknesses? What about immunities?

I'm thinking something along the lines of:

Water, Grass, Electric, Fire, Ghost, Ice.

I usually like to make sure the main type-triangle is included, even if it's a sub-type in the Pokémon in mind. The three provide coverage for not only each other, but a good number of other types as well.
Ghost, Ice, and Electric are here to provide both backup and coverage for the few things (like Dragon) that can brush off water, grass, and fire with ease.

    So? What do you think?

Water-Grass-Fire core has always been important to me. However when I'm teambuilding I pick a 'mon to build around on and support it with other types. Fav core is probably Heatran/Latios :p

Yeah, while F/W/G cores are pretty sweet, the more common cores I'm accustomed to is the "fantasy core", Steel / Dragon / Fairy. It's pretty sweet, you should try it sometime.

Definitely gonna go with Poison / Steel / Fairy. I can't explain it but I think those three types work really well together.

Steel is the absolute most important typing IMO, since it resists so much that it becomes detrimental to a team. Most teams I see that has success in competitive battling always has at least 1-2 steel-types.

Fire/Water/Grass cores have been around in the meta since arceus knows when, and for good reason. The synergy between these types have a good balance of offense and defense from their resists, coverage and team options.

Dragon/Steel/Fairy has been gaining good use in the meta. Steel for the resists, Fairy for the support/utility (or sometimes the sweeper), and Dragon for sweeping (or sometimes as a wallbreaker/revenger). I personally use Mega Aggron/Florges/Scarf Hydreigon in UU and it works really well so far.
