So I am willing to be money that this was overshadowed by that other guy popping in, but I'm still very excited about this. Terry Bogard is the poster boy of SNK, one of the Originators of fighting games back in the 90s. While Capcom was inventing the concept of a combo with Street Fighter II, SNK was off perfecting it with Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters, and dozens more. Back then, when Arcade ports were considered sacred to fighting game fanatics, SNK created what was essentially a home console of arcade level quality, the Neo Geo, which was as close to arcade quality as you could get for a home console for a very long time. Nowadays SNK has been a lot more quiet in terms of mainstream attention, but they still turn out great games every so often. the King of Fighters series just had a teaser for its 15th installment this year at EVO, and Samurai Shodown this year was a return to form of one of their oldest and most beloved series. So why get SNK in now? Actually, as of late SNK has had a lot of its characters popping up as guests in other fighting games. Geese Howard, the antagonist of Fatal Fury showed up in Tekken 7, Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown is coming to SoulCalibur VI, Kula Diamond and Mai Shiranui from KOF are playable in Dead or Alive 6, and Terry himself popped up in Fighting EX Layer. Its basically the perfect time for SNK to show up with how open they've been with all their characters being guests. With my gushing out of the way, what are your thoughts on how Terry and his new King of Fighters stage looks? Right now I think he looks great and the stage is cool as well.
I am glad to say that I have heard of Terry before, although I have no connection to Fatal Fury or King of Fighters. I am familiar with how King of Fighters influenced Smash Bros. however, and I feel that his inclusion is a nice one. He definitely looks the part of a Smash character, so I'm looking forward to what Terry can offer to the game!
The two fighting games I love above all are Guilty Gear and King of Fighters so I was pretty surprised and ecstatic to see Terry added to the smash roster. I am hoping they bring in KoF to the switch at some point and not just Fatal Fury which is fun but not really my thing. For smash he looks pretty interesting, curious to see the rest of his moveset.
