Now, I for one love monotype, but, I don't know why. Is its simple rules? is it the restrictions? Well... help me go through the journey and see what monotype is to me and you!

Well, first, its the restrictions, having one type is ridiculously tough and you've got to think about what Pokémon and types screw your type up, a good example being fighting on dark, Sableye and Spiritomb being the only exceptions and they can be taken out with any play rough which a surprising amount of Pokémon learn.

The simplicity counts for something, but also the real thought that goes into teams, but teams are always changing, there's always a new check, and you have to do an awful lot of testing. This may put many people off, but that feeling when you get it just right, its the best feeling in the world.

So, what do you think of Monotype? What's its charms? anyways, until next time...

There's something that feels very... fresh in monotype battling. That's how I can only describe it.

Thing is, you never know what your opponent will use: it could be that you're bound to lose, because you're using an ice type mono against a fire type mono, could be that either player could win, or it could be that you'll get a guaranteed victory. I love Monotype battles, and will never stop loving them.

I don't do monotype very much, (mostly because I'm still not that great at teambuilding) but I also agree that it's pretty fun. You have to play smart and cover your weaknesses, choose dual types that will help you resist what your other Pokémon don't, and build movesets around both your strengths and weaknesses. It's pretty complex, but I kinda like it. It certainly helps me get better at building rounded a team. :D

There's something about Monotype that makes it a blessing & a curse. That thing being is that either you're a complete advantage, or you're at a complete disadvantage. Now there are only two types of Mono teams that have strange advantages. Dragon Monotype has no advantage over anything but Dragon itself, while Normal Monotype has no advantages over anything & only has to fear Fighting Monotypes. I always say that if you're at a huge advantage, it doesn't mean you'll automatically win, you still have to be careful with your decisions. The same goes for you if you're at huge disadvantage, it doesn't mean you will automatically lose.

I like monotype because no average joe can just plug in some random Pokémon and start swinging (kinda like OU). You really have to play smart with your team, and if you are at that disadvantage learn how to work around it and try to be successful with your Pokémon. The battle can always turn, because I've beaten steel monos with a poison mono before you just have to learn how to play the strange meta

If you battle my monotype, you have a 99.5% chance of losing. Seriously, I even calculated it.

Ahh monotypes. I've had some good times with monotype battles with dark types.

Monotype is a great thing in my opinion, it makes you rely on YOUR type, and make you win through sheer willpower and brains, (/me looks at ash. you could make a stall team out of ghost and be kissing your butts goodbye or make a stall out of grass and be coming out smiling. It isn't all curse, yet, it does kinda suck when you lose, but maybe that's because you have yourself to blame.

    Edit;

then I must be good... no... wait... that cant be possible, you just suck.

Monotype is one of those things you always wanted to do as a kid, but couldn't due to the very minimum amount of Pokémon at the time. In this day and age, there's a huge variety from each type, but obviously, GF still plays favoritism towards certain types (i.e. Water, Normal).

I've played a lot of Monotype, and from my experience, the best Monotypes are Flying, Psychic, Steel, Fairy, and surprisingly, Poison. Bug too, if used properly.

Ground was a bit more useful the previous two generations when weather had a permanent effect. It's still pretty decent in Gen VI, but the limitations of sand really does take away a lot of Ground types' potential.

Monotype is another good Tier to play. I enjoy the battles on it, and the charm is in to take the challenge to start building it.

I'll always hold monotype as a very fond memory and competitive metagame. In fact, I'd contribute Gen 5 OU Mono to a large portion of my success as a competitive player and metagame developer. There's so much to be said about the metagame that it's hard to keep it all in one post, but here's a go at it:

Monotype places a fun restriction on playing Pokémon, and that's imperative. The more you enjoy playing, the better. You can effectively use any type you'd like and be completely content with the outcome, even when it's skewed like Flying vs Grass. It's really awesome to be able to play that way. What's better is the variance you'll see in literally every type. Sure you have staples as every other metagame does, but almost every type has fluidity in which Pokémon are viable. Some of the best monotype teams I've seen around are Steel, Fire, and Electric. Gotta love a metagame like this.

My normal team has suprised a few opponents and been cursed because of it (namely my softboiled Chansey which can drag the battle out and my skill link Cincinno are the main culprits for this) I personally believe it's how you send them out that contributes to you winning

I love monotypes! It's super fun, especially with the wide diversity of Pokémon out there!
I particularity love using normal type monotype because it's super interesting to see how the rather underrated type can hold it's own against some difficult types such as ghost, fighting, steel, you name it.

I enjoy Monotype very much, and I have a team for almost every type. My only problem with it is that it kind of asks of you to be a little creative with your teams. However, almost every other Monotype battle that I participate in is either Mono-Bug or Mono-Steel, and they're all made up of the same 5-6 Pokémon. I also loathe the moment when I'm unfortunate enough to face a Mono-Flying team (which also consists of the same 5-6 Pokémon). All-in-all, Monotype isn't too much different from Smogon OU, with the only noticeable difference being the types.

But even though I face the same teams in repetition, I still like to showcase my Mono-Poison and Mono-Psychic teams, which are two of my favorite Monotype teams.

I enjoy my monotype team a lot (maybe because ive used it for 2 years or its high on the ladder but what have you) if you play one card wrong though you end up dying pretty easily.... The great types to use are Bug, Fire, Water, Steel, or Dragon

The two hardest types are grass and poison though.... and fairys climbing that list thanks to Mawilite being banned for both steel and fairy

Also no more slowbro mega (which sucks cause that's what my water team was gonna be based off...)

But in any case I love it! makes you feel like a actuall gym leader using one type

but if you want to try something that's even more fun the PS lobby now has Random monotype, which is fun and hard and sometimes a little frustrating (especially with dragon since all banned Pokémon are unbanned) the only way so far though is to wait for a tour, or challenge someone to it its in Other metas section

I don't really care about the type advantage/ disadvantages when playing this. It's nice at times to think that you're a gym leader of some sort!

Well, for me it's the fact that it's often more challenging to use than other teams. Since I'm a person who gets bored quickly, I make tons of different mono teams just to have fun. It just brings something different to the table that a regular battle wouldn't. Also, if you have a type that includes a lot of Pokémon you like, the fact that you're just using a full team of your favorite Pokémon can make you feel good. I'd rather use a team of my favorite Pokémon than the perfect team any day. I guess that's the reason why I like monotype teams and battles. :)

My favorite types would probably be Dragon and Water, due to the fact Dragon has a lot of powerful and cool looking Pokémon and then it's just fun to use a rain team.
