Ah, the comfort zone! How relaxing...

Most people have some sort of place, whether it be physical, mental, emotional, etc. where they find comfort and rest from the various activities we experience in life. This state has often been referred to as the comfort zone. For example, my comfort zone is at home with my family, playing video games, eating peanut butter, or being on Lake Valor. These are all things that make me feel comfortable in life.

(This next section is purely subjective and comes from my personal experience, perhaps you have had a different experience than me!)

Their is a flip side to this, as well. A common quote I heard growing up is "There is no growth in the comfort zone, and there is no growth in the comfort zone." While of course there are exceptions to this, this is an interesting thought. My personal take is that I grow at a FASTER/HIGHER rate when I'm not in my comfort zone compared to when I'm trying new things. When we are truly comfortable and potentially semi-complacent, how much can we actually learn and grow? Take my mission trip for example. I spent two years doing things that were far out of my comfort zone, and I have to say, I have grown so much as a person. (Seriously, if you have ever seen my old Discord comments, I used to have no filter whatsoever.) Doing hard things has personally lead me to undergo some valuable personal changes.

    (Personal section over)

However, I always love coming back and relaxing in my comfort zone, because de-stressing can't be understated.

What's your comfort zone? How often do you leave it? What have you learned away from your comfort zone? What have you learned in your comfort zone?

My comfort zone is on here or on Youtube. I come on as much as I can, whether I’m distracted or just trying to entertain myself.

My comfort zone is basically just whenever I listen to music or watch television. When I'm super stressed out, I do these things to relax and just block out my worries until I'm in a state of mind where I can actually do something about my problems.
Another one of my comfort zones though is whenever I'm doing anything related to theater, which is why I've never fully understood the belief that you can't grow if you stick to your comfort zone. Whenever I audition for a new show, I feel much more comfortable at the auditions than I normally do in social settings, and because I'm more comfortable I'm more willing to put myself out there, talk to others, and show off what I can do. Those are things that I'm usually too anxious to do.

When I’m stressed out I kinda just lay on my bed or go to town on a heavy bag.

My comfort zone is whenever I play Pokémon or play video games, really. I only really leave it when I have to go to college and/or do work.

My comfort zone is either doing my hobbies around the house, traveling, or going on car rides while listening to music.

Do you mean "There is no growth in the comfort zone, and there is no comfort in the growth zone"? I subjectively think it sounds better that way, and it mostly makes some amount of sense that way too.

In general, while I think it's important to have a particular comfort zone, I think it's even more important to know how to be comfortable with discomfort. If unplanned and unexpected events are uncomfortable, or if being in a crowd is uncomfortable, or if being involved with certain kinds of work or people is uncomfortable, it is very important to be able to just deal with it. The world can not and will not adjust itself to your comfort for one reason: because it's bigger than you. When things get uncomfortable, you might not be able to get to your comfort zone and the world can't be expected to morph into your comfort zone. In those situations, you need to have gained the ability to be okay, or you are in for an unnecessarily painful life.

Anyway, my comfort zone is anywhere I am with "the right amount of people". Most of the time that means I'm alone or with one particular person, rarely does it mean I'm in a crowd or with strangers (some situations even I don't want to be alone). Anything else such as what I'm doing, my surroundings, random mental impulses matter very little to me. I probably learn and grow more in my low-population comfort zone than outside of it, because I turn myself to an inward-facing mode when I'm far from my zone. You can only learn so much while facing inward or functioning at 75%, and so much more can be done while facing attention outward and functioning at 100%.

Yeah, that was a typo on my part. Good catch! When one is overly comfortable, there are typically not as many opportunities for growth, etc.
