The Critical Hit Nerf

    In generation 6, critical hits were changed to be weaker than before. How big of an impact do you think this had on competitive battling? Also, do you like the change or not? I'm curious to know!

    So so very happy to see this added. Anything that reduces hax like crits or flinches is a good thing in my book. Perhaps I'm a little overbiased, but still a 1.5 is reasonable extra damage, while keeping the fact that it hits through negative stat changes

    I don't see the overall critical hit change as a nerf due to critical hit stage change and I don't feel that it had a big impact to competitive gaming, maybe making defensive boosting (Calm Mind/Bulk UP etc.) slightly better. The biggest impact that it had was the popularity of Sniper Kingdra in the beginning of XY.

    I don't have any experience with competitive battling before gen 6, but a 2x damage bonus for essentially doing nothing but clicking a move and getting lucky seems a bit excessive. The 1.5x damage bonus is enough to be game changing at the right moment and to act as a win condition, while little enough to make it more easily played around.

    Honestly, It didn't affect me too much, the main thing for me was the fact that crits bypass all of your lower boosts and all of the opponents higher boosts, as well as Light Screen and Reflect. SOo, I didn't find them too big

    Didn't really affect me much at all. I never like to rely on crits and hax to make tactics and teams work, so anything that really turns the game into more of a game of strategy and skill is fine by me.

    Part of me enjoyed 2x critting people.

    Part of me also finds critical hits to be incredibly unfair and I'm so glad it got nerfed to 1.5x

    So yeah I'm pretty conflicted.

    On a side note, crits help everyone be on a similar playing field, no player is gonna always have the advantage over the other.

    I for one appreciate it and want this expanded. I think type-effectiveness is too severe and would rather see it cut in half. Instead of super being 2x and 4x, how about 1.5x and 2x? resists can be .75x single resist and .5x double resist.

    Anyhow, back to the point, I like reduced crits. It makes the outcome of battles be less of a landslide and more dependent on tactic than on luck, and I'm in favor of almost anything that does that.
