The rain poured down over the proposed battlefield. Mika shivered in the rain. He was keeping her waiting. She glanced around. Nobody... She huddled deeper into the corner, trying her best to stay dry. Not that these dilapidated and forgotten buildings had much to hide under.
With a grating crack, the gutter above her split. Tears welled in her eyes. As if her day could get any worse. She'd gone home today, trying to get some of her stuff. Her mother had screamed at her, slapping her around the dirty household. She'd left empty-handed, with more bruises and wounds to boot. She hadn't eaten in days... This was her last chance at any sort of survival...

A figure detached itself from the shadows. He was here, walking towards her. She checked her belt. A lone Pokéball rested there. Her only friend, Eevee. She stepped out into the rain. He stopped.
"Are you sure that you want to do this, Lass?" He asked. "Last chance to turn back for Celadon." She shook her head.
"I'm sure. I can't stand to go back there." She replied, vehemently. Now it was his turn to shake his head.
"You know what happens if you lose? And you accept that?" She nodded. "Very well..." he sighed. " He detached a Pokéball from his belt.

"Ivysaur, go!" He sent it out into the space between them. Mika held her ball up to her face and kissed it.

"Eevee, I need you to do this for me..." She whispered as she sent it out.

"Ivysaur, Leech Seed!" The man's Ivysaur let loose a web-like substance that clung to Eevee's fur. It glowed green briefly and Eevee cried in pain.

"Hang in there, buddy! Use Quick Attack!" Eevee charged across the field, glowing white with the energy stored in the attack. However, it simply bounced off of the Ivysaur.

"Ivysaur, Razor Leaf!" The man called out. The Ivysaur shook the flower on its back, sending a flurry of razor-sharp leaves at Eevee. Several impacted, scouring great gashes into Eevee. It cried in pain.
"I can't stand this... Ivysaur, finish it please." The man spoke softly. Ivysaur turned to look at him. "Please." Ivysaur nodded. A vine speared the air. It pierced Eevee's heart. Mika could see those once-bright, brown eyes looking at her.

'Vee...' He cried once, as his eyes clouded over and his spirit was claimed by the Distortion World. Mika sank to her knees as the vine deposited the now lifeless body at he feet. Tears streamed down her face, mixing with the rain. Footsteps splashed closer to her.
"I'm truly sorry lass... But I have my orders. I don't like 'em but I have 'em" The man had a catch in his voice. He hesitated. He felt his eyes prickle. Strengthening his resolve, he produced a pistol from his belt.

Blam. Mika looked the man in the face as she died. She fell, face-down, beside her Eevee, her partner. Friends to the end. She didn't see the man turn and walk away, water streaming down his face. Strangely enough, parts of it tasted of salt. The storm raged over the two bodies left there in the dark. Victims of a cruel, heartless monster... Life.
