There lived a boy in a place called Mt. Olive, in a house that was half above ground and half underground. He moved recently with his parents from overseas into a delightful and cozy home and this was his first winter here. He woke up one morning to find his parents absent. The only trace of their whereabouts was found in a note written on the dining room table: Son, We're just heading out to do some shopping. Remember to clean up any mess you make. Will be back in the afternoon. Love you! -- Mom The boy shrugged and grabbed a bowl of breakfast. He enjoyed being home alone because of the peace and quiet he could now experience. Halfway through his breakfast, the boy suddenly head light thumping at the back door. Curious as to who his visitor might be, he put his spoon down and walked over to the door. To his surprise, he found an Eevee pawing at the door, cold, shivering, and scared. Feeling sorry for the Eevee, the boy opened the door and let it inside. He was curious to find that his feet were wet but didn't give it much thought otherwise. "Are you hungry?" the boy asked. The Eevee nodded, shivering from the cold. The boy disappeared for a moment to grab a towel and the half-eaten bowl of cereal he left in the kitchen to answer the door. The boy placed the bowl on the floor and wrapped the towel around the poor Pokémon, obviously glad to be in a warm house. While petting and comforting the Eevee, the boy caught a glimpse of the outdoors. "What the heck?" he said, unsure of what he was seeing. He saw icicles hanging in front of the door he peered through. From what little he could see, everything in his back yard was completely submerged in ice! Even the garden rake was buried under a solid floor of ice. "This is so weird...but so cool as well!" the boy exclaimed. "Eevee, when you're all warmed up, wanna come outside with me? I've never seen this before!" The Eevee nodded, smiling and enjoying the house's central heating system. The boy put his night robe and slippers on to keep warm and opened the back door. It wasn't until he stepped outside that he began to see what happened. Apparently, an ice storm hit last night and pelted everything with a thick coat of now frozen rain. What excited the boy about this was the fact that the back yard's entrance led to a curving ramp downwards into the back of the house, where the garage and basement was; the underground portion of the house. Everything was coated in ice, which meant the slope down into the garage and driveway was slippery and smooth. The boy had the idea to grab a cardboard box and use the ramp as a slide. "Come with me!" the boy spoke. "I've got an idea. Let's have some fun!" He grabbed a box from inside the house among the stack of boxes which one held their possessions when they moved in, walked outside, being careful not to slip, and placed the box flat on the top section of the ice "slide." He signaled the Eevee to hop on his lap. When the Eevee was comfortable and had a steady place on the boy's lap, the boy pushed against the ice and slid down the icy slope. The first time was a little scary but pretty soon, it turned into an exhilarating and fun ride for both the boy and the Eevee! For about 10-15 minutes, they turned extremely dangerous road conditions into a joyride. Then something caught the attention of the boy. Everything in sight was coated in thick ice, except for this one lone tree log. This isolated tree log, obviously dead and rotting, was the only thing in view that was completely thawed. "That's funny..." the boy said. "Do you see that over there?" The Eevee nodded, just as puzzled. Out of curiosity, they climbed the other side of the driveway ramp and up to the tree log, about 3 feet high. Being the curious lad that he was, the boy kicked the tree log to see if anything was inside. Immediate regret and disgust followed. The dead log was infested with fire ants! The boy grabbed the Eevee and ran as fast as his legs would carry him without falling over on the ice and retreated back to the house. "Okay, never touching that thing again!" the boy wheezed, horrified at the discovery he made. After a few minutes, he regained his composure and spent the rest of the morning indoors playing with the Eevee. By the time his parents came home, the Eevee quickly parted ways to avoid getting the boy into trouble. But every so often, he would come back and visit the boy for as long as he lived in Mt. Olive.
