"Okay...d20s ready!" Brock smiles as he gets his own battle dice. "If you get the higher number than me, then you do damage to the monster. If I get the higher number, you take the difference in damage." he reminds Seth.

With that, he waits for Seth's roll while making his...

Brock winces at his dice. "A Thunderbolt goes flying from your finger at the only goblin still standing. He squawks in alarm as the thunder paralyzes him."

"Pay attention to how Brock describes your results or performs an NPC's reaction--that's a clue as to how you did on a check." Misty tells you.

"So your target is heavily weakened and paralyzed..." Brock notes the weakened goblin. "Nice roll!" he smiles.

Brock notes the fallen goblin. "There's one goblin left, so who wants the finishing blow?"

"Meri uses Magic Blade." Misty reports.

Brock rolls Misty's result, then cues the victory music. "The blue beam of magic hits your target point blank, destroying it."

The table buzzes with excitement and congratulations as Brock calculates experience and rolls for any drops...

Brock finishes organizing the drops. "The goblins were each carrying a suit of leather armor, a light wooden shield, a morning star, and three javelins. The fallen elves each carried studded leather armor and carried an iron shield, a mythril sword, and a mythril bow."

"I'll take one of the bows." Ash volunteered--a mythril bow was a valid normal bow for a battlemage.

"If no one wants any of this, it will go in the vault." Brock tells everyone.

Brock checked Robert's equipment. "Yes--studded leather is stronger than standard leather. Rangers and runeblades can also equip it."

"I'll take the other suit." Serena volunteers.

"Is a mythril sword valid for a magic knight?" Misty asks.

"Yes--it is a good early blade for a magic knight or a sword wielding battlemage." Brock explains.

Brock informed the group "Two other elves are gravely wounded--but you can still save them if you use healing magic."

"Meri uses Healing Flow." Misty reports.

Brock rolls Misty's result. "The healing water quickly stabilizes the elves' wounds. For now, you need to get them to town so they can rest."

"As you check the bodies of the goblins and the fallen elves, you notice a frightened human woman peering at you from behind a barrel in the overturned wagon." Brock explains.

"Is it safe to come out?" he asks as the woman.

"Yes--it's safe, good lady." Serena replies in character.

"Thank you--My name's Ren Goldleaf." Brock replies as the woman.

"If I may ask, were you traveling alone?" Misty asks in character.

"No--we were returning to Whitebarrow after trading in a nearby village." Brock explains as Ren. "I'd heard about goblin attacks, but nothing like this! Do any of my escort still live?"

Ash sighs. "It pains me to be the bearer of bad news, but two of your escort fell protecting you."

"The two others were clinging to life, but I managed to stabilize them with a healing spell." Misty explains. "Let's get them--and you--to safety."

"Yes, let's!" Brock agrees in character as Ren. "Make sure that those that fell are given a proper burial."

Brock winces at the next encounter in the book. "Should we give Ren and what remains of her escort the dignity of arriving in town safely? Or do you really want to fight a more powerful goblin?"

The chat is overwhelmingly in favor of the group reaching Whitebarrow safely.
