Robert thought about it for a second before replying, "Keda will check out the temple."

 

Keda reverently kept silent as he took in the scene. Despite his kind being primarily worshipers of the Legendary of Earth, Groudon, Keda held all of them in great reverence. The sheer atmosphere was enough for Keda to feel as if his soul was being healed, and he had not even approached the chief priestess. Once she was free, Keda walked over and bowed his head respectfully. "Good afternoon," he spoke softly, as if his normal volume might disrupt the atmosphere.

 

"Our party just arrived in town," Keda explained, "after assisting a merchant who was being accosted by monsters - goblins, to be specific. Unfortunately, two of her guards were deceased by the time we arrived. I've been told that goblin encounters have been on the rise as of late. Have there been any supernatural movements as of late that might explain this increase?"

 

"Thank you for your generosity, Your Grace," Keda replied. "I shall endeavor to return with my party; I have a feeling that we are going to need such a boon."

 

"Yeah, that should be enough," Robert replied.

 

"If I may, friends," Keda began, "I have been doing some asking about. While defenses have begun to be erected, they won't matter, not with how the goblins have been increasing. However, there seems to be a driving force behind these increases, and it's something big. It would have to be, if even those troublesome beasts had the sense to either ally with it or avoid it like the plague. We must protect the citizens from the goblins, of course, but if they are but a symptom of the true problem then we must deal with the root issue."

 

"Wise words," Lúthion replied. "If what Keda says is true, I think we may have to wait longer and potentially face a second attack. If a larger force is behind all this, it is clear that it should be eliminated first."

 

"I agree with Dame," Keda piped up. "While it is important for us to make a living, far greater it is for us to see to the safety of the village, and for you to put the money toward your town's defenses."

 

"I have no problem with this reward - the knowledge that your village is safe is fair enough," Lúthion added. "Onwards, then, if nobody has any objections."

 

"If we are to find the root of the problem, we should assume that it is very powerful. Dealing with it after we are battle-worn is a bad idea. I say we try to slip through without a fight," Lúthion stated.

 

"Dame and Lúthion are correct. If we were to fight through the armies of the goblins, we will surely be defeated in short order by whatever awaits us further in," Keda cautioned.
