With the multitude of Nuzlocke variants out there, I thought I'd introduce you to a new Nuzlocke variant that I use. It's a combination of a Wedlocke and a Typelocke. Check it out here! First, here are the basic Nuzlocke Rules that I go with:

    1. All Pokémon must be nicknamed.

    2. Only the first Pokémon encountered on the new route could be caught. Static and Gift Pokémon count as that Route's Encounter if chosen to be used. Can be ignored if preferred. Starter Pokémon are ignored and are considered a part of your team. You can catch a Pokémon on the route/town encountered. In the case of a horde battle, the choice of which Pokémon is chosen is determined by the player.

    3. When a Pokémon faints, the Pokémon is considered dead and must be released/boxed.

    4. Dupe and Species Clause can be enacted to avoid duplicates.

    5. Shiny Clause can be enacted to replace that route's encounter and be used on the team. If chosen not to replace that encounter, then it must be boxed/traded and cannot be used.

And now, for the Knightlocke Rules:

    6. Pokémon are paired by opposite or lack of gender and cannot share a common type. A male Pokémon can be paired with a female or a non-gendered Pokémon. A Magmar cannot be paired with a Houndoom. If a Pokémon is unpaired, up to 5 retries can be enacted to pair a new Pokémon. If the 5 encounters fail to produce a Pokémon that can be paired, the route is void. Pokémon with the same PRIMARY type cannot exist in the party among a different pair. A Grovyle and Zubat, as a pair, cannot exist in a party when another pair includes a Gyarados and an Arbok. If Gyarados is paired with a Magnemite, then the pairs can coexist in the party at the same time.

    7. Pairs are Soul Linked together. If a Pokémon from the pair dies, then the other Pokémon MUST finish the battle until it dies or the battle ends. After the battle, it is also considered dead and must be released/boxed with it's fallen partner. Pairs can be deposited into the PC to use a different pair throughout the journey. Changes to the pair CANNOT be changed once the Pokémon are paired. Pokémon may remain in the PC unpaired and paired up at a later time.

    8. Item restriction: No items can be used in battle with the exception of held items, X Items, and Poke Balls.

    9. Legendary Pokémon are legal.

    10. Only one Pokémon with access to Mega Evolution can exist in a pair. You cannot have a Mega Lucario and a Mega Garchomp exist on the team. However, Mega Stones can be swapped out any time.

    11. After defeating a Gym Leader, one Pokémon can be used in Pokémon-Amii and gain one affection point. ]

    12. Level Limit. Pokémon cannot exceed the highest level the Gym Leader uses in Gym Battle. If the Pokémon levels up above before the Gym Battle can take place, the pair must be deposited.

    13. Exp. Share is turned OFF.

    14. If a Pokémon is Roared out, then the Pokémon brought out is the new active pair.

    15. DexNav Encounter: The player gets three chances to scope out the DexNav Encounter per route. After the third DexNav scope, then the player cannot receive a DexNav Pokémon and must catch a route Pokémon.

    16. Trade Pokémon with NPC's cannot be used. If the player catches a Pokémon that evolves via trade, the player must level up the Pokémon ten levels before the Pokémon could be self traded to evolve. If an item is required, then the item must be obtained first in order to evolve.

I hope you enjoy the challenge! Tell me what you think.

This looks like a pretty cool variant. Do you plan on doing a playthrough for all of Lake Valor with this?

This sounds like an interesting locke! Though I'm kind of curious how you are going to approach rule #2. "Only the first Pokémon encountered on the new route could be caught. Static and Gift Pokémon count as that Route's Encounter if chosen to be used. Can be ignored if preferred." So lets say you decided to use the gift Pokémon for your team. Then you encounter a Pokémon you like better as the first Pokémon encountered for that route. Can you still choose that Pokémon you encountered, or are you stuck with the gift Pokémon as the Pokémon for that Route?

It depends on the player. If you decide that Gift Pokémon don't count, you can use the Gift Pokémon and the Pokémon you found on the route. Static Pokémon, like Snorlax, is also up to you. If you decide that both of these do count, you couldn't use a Route Encounter if you got a Gift Pokémon earlier. I hope this explains it better.
