Not sure if anyone else has done a thread like this, but I'm writing one up anyway. When it comes to catching Pokémon, it usually comes down to chance. Chance rates differ depending on the Pokémon and the Pokéball being thrown at it. And sometimes the chances of catching them are slim, they escape, and then something terrible happens that prevents you from capturing them. Whether it was an accidental miss-click, the Pokémon running away, or downright exploding themselves out of existence... In whatever Pokémon game, main release or spin-off, tell us down below what was the one Pokémon; shiny, legendary, what have you; that left a significant impact on you as it got away. * I will start. In Pearl version, I was training in Stark Mountain during post game. A shiny blue Weezing appeared into view. On impulse alone, I threw a Quick Ball at it, but it immediately escaped capture like it was nothing. And then it did something that further added insult to injury... It used Explosion. Since then, I have hated this move and any other Self-Destruct moves like it. And what made it worse was a Let's Player I was watching at the time came across a shiny Koffing and caught it without much issue. I had never been so envious and angry in all my life (I didn't express it though. I have standards).

I lost Deoxys because I, a dumb person, assumed using Rayquaza's Extremespeed twice wouldn't knock it out. I had to go back through THREE HOURS of data to re-catch it. I've also accidentally dropped my DS after catching Legendaries, and once, I forgot to save after getting a Mystery Gift Volcanion. RIP. #MissingNo
Several times in my Heartgold nuzlocke, I was lucky enough to have my first encounter be a Pokémon that had a low encounter rate, and one I was really excited to use. I'd send out my Pokémon, and, well... critical hits would take out my encounter. Big depression.
The other day I encountered a shiny Pokémon in Sun while grinding and didn't realize it until I already ordered my Decidueye to use a move that defeated it. Considering the number of shiny Pokémon that I've ever encountered outside of events is still in the single digits, I was quite disappointed in myself.
I hate that move so much, it is really a bummer when you cant catch a Pokémon, shiny or not. I have had plenty of runins with it sadly, killing Pokémon or killing what i wanted to capture.
