Friendship was originally introduced in Pokémon Yellow, though it was only limited to your starter Pikachu. Later in Generation II it was incorporated for all Pokémon, and the moves Return and Frustration use the Pokémon's friendship to determine its power. Many Pokémon evolve when their friendship is high enough, and sometimes you can get items and Ribbons for showing someone a Pokémon with a high enough friendship.

What do you think about friendship? Like it? Hate it? Think it's hard to max out? Has it improved in the newer generations?

I think friendship is a very necessary component to Pokémon games, and I would actually like to see it be more important. If we remove Friendship (and the closely-related Aime), then how do trainers and Pokémon interact? Battling, talent shows, and (probably forced) breeding. Where in there is the bond between trainer and Pokémon? Sure, it can be implied, but there's a difference between "yeah, I'm friends with my Pokémon, you just can't see that we're friends" and "look at how well I've been treating my Pokémon! I give it vitamins, take it for massages and haircuts, we win competitions together and go for long walks, and the numbers prove it!"

Okay, we shouldn't have to mathematically prove friendship... but I like that the simulated option is there.

I think friendship is a nice addition to the games, although I tend to forget about it. I usually don't really pay attention to friendship, unless I'm carrying around one of my favourite Pokémon (like my Torterra, my first Pokémon ever) or a Pokémon that evolves as soon as its Friendship stat is high enough. As Zero said, it would be nice to give the Friendship a bigger role in the games.

Tbh I love the component if friendship in the games, and I like that it's lowkey incorporated in most of the storylines and random dialogues in the games. While there's a large portion of older players, I think this friendship-oriented play is important when it comes to young players.

As we move into a more technological era (you know what I mean-- 4 years old with electronic devices) I think it's great Pokémon is friendship oriented. Teach the kids that being kind and friendly to Pokémon (animals) and people alike is important and admirable. Lots can be accomplished with friendship! Thx for teaching the kids, GameFreak.

I think the friendship feature is great and it has its quirks sure,
but for the most part, it's pretty easy to understand
and benefits your Pokémon, in cute and helpful ways.

friendship is really a good feature. i like this feature because of this feature a trainer(use/player) can easily interact with Pokémon and it helps in connecting with the game. it is really good that this feature is implemented for all Pokémon and because of it some Pokémon that are close to trainer can get some beneficial moves.

To be honest it's actually kind of annoying. I hate having to evolve Pokémon through friendship because it just takes forever. I like having a clean cut level or having to use an item to evolve my Pokémon, not just having to guess each time it levels up.

I agree with Zero (literally the only reply I read :D) However, I do feel it is far too easy to get the friendship up. All you have to do is literally walk and battle with your Pokémon to become friendly. I feel their should be a cap on how friendly you can get just by battling.
