There are several game series that release games yearly, but often don't have a lot of changes. Some people hate this and accuse the series of releasing the same game every year. The ones that I have heard the most are Call of Duty, sports games like Madden and NBA 2k, and Pokémon. Imo, I think it's fine if they keep releasing them yearly. We aren't forced to buy it, but we can get the ones we like. What is your opinion on these "clone" games? Should these franchises release a game yearly?
That's IGN for you. Calls every Pokémon game out there "repetitive" And then every Call of Duty game released annually is a "must have" with "innovative" changes to keep it fresh. Honestly, every game is going to be repetitive in a series, especially when it comes to features that the fandom enjoys. You're right in that it's our choice to buy them or not. Nobody is holding a gun to our head and saying we HAVE to do that. To me, it's really up to the buyer. I seldom get games on release date unless I'm 100% sure it's one I want. In the meantime, I'll check the reviews on various gaming sites and articles depicting the different things in there. It'll definitely influence my decision and I'll have to judge it for myself on whether I want the repetitive features or avoid it altogether.
I don't believe that Main Pokémon games have a yearly release. However, it is up to the buyers choice in the long run. I don't really like the fact that COD gets a game every year, only because once you buy a game and it's DLC it all becomes pointless when the new game comes out because then everyone will be playing that instead of the game that came out last year, you know? Actually, that goes with any game with a yearly release and DLC if you ask me.
