With the Hoenn remakes (Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire) just around the corner, some are looking back on past remakes, such as FireRed/LeafGreen and HeartGold/SoulSilver. It's also noteworthy that none of the earlier generations' third games (Yellow, Crystal, and so on) have ever been remade.

Were you expecting any of the "third games" to be remade? What titles were you expecting them to be released under and what generation?

Around the time FireRed and LeafGreen were announced, I was actually expecting a Yellow remake (under the title ThunderYellow) to be released following FR/LG's release. I was surprised that such a remake never came to fruition. Again, during HeartGold and SoulSilver's time in the spotlight, I was also expecting a Crystal remake. Of course, that never happened either.
I've heard rumors that an Emerald remake could be in the works, although this time I don't expect Emerald to be remade, considering Yellow and Crystal were never remade.

I don't think I am or was expecting third game remakes, only because I never felt they were that necessary, but at the same time, it would just be easier to make third game remakes so that we don't need to go out and buy both copies of the game. Again I don't see a point in an Emerald Remake, if they just are going to implement a lot of the emerald version additions in this game, though I wish they would have it so both games would have the Emerald storyline, instead of just making it so it's ruby and sapphire only.

I don't think there's a point in remaking one of the third games. All the content is in the other two, so why bother with a third?

Well, in HGSS's case, they actually incorporated Crystal's story into it (at least, with Suicune and whatnot) in addition to the Ho-oh or Lugia stories. So, I don't think it was necessary at all to remake Crystal in addition to Gold and Silver. I expect it to be similar in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

However, Firered and Leafgreen didn't really have any of Yellow's special aspects, so I would have loved to see Yellow remade, too. Maybe in the future, heh, but I doubt it.

The third installment is always an improved version of the two predecessors. Remakes essentially are the same thing; the original games, adapted to the newer technology. So a remake of an improved version of a game seems a bit unnecessary to me xD

I really hope they do third game remakes. Mainly since one in particular had a pretty unique storyline compared to the preceding games. Emerald. Pokémon Emerald was pretty much a completely separate game from Ruby and Sapphire with different cutscenes and added features like the battle frontier.

An Emerald remake is highly unlikely, especially considering it's not much worthy like a Yellow remake would be. HG/SS pretty much already had all the elements of Crystal Version in it; therefore that really isn't worthy of a remake either. And by the looks of it, OR/AS will have most, if not, ALL the elements of Emerald Version in them.

Why do I say Yellow Version is worthy of a remake? Because unlike Red/Blue, Yellow Version made it actually feel like you were playing as Ash, as opposed to Red. With today's technology, they could utilize the whole Pikachu companion thing to a much greater extent. For example, you could use the 3DS mic to communicate to Pikachu to some degree (and it would also be a nice little throwback to Hey You, Pikachu). It would be like an advanced version of Pokémon Amie, think of it that way.
More things to note about Yellow was the implementation of the anime version of Team Rocket, and the challenge factor of the game. The gym battles were pretty challenging, and at times, had you on the edge of your seat.

Overall, I'd say it'd be justified if they did a remake of Yellow, because all of what I've mentioned (plus more) was never included in FR/LG.
Perhaps in this remake as well, they could include the REAL Orange Islands, and not the dumbed down Sevii Isles. Those were kind of disappointing, in my opinion.
