This is not a complaint one hears too often, but even so. Have you ever come across game that you found too easy for you? Did this put you off playing it, or sour the experience for you...or did you perhaps create your own challenge? As a bonus, how do you feel about easy games generally?
I like easier games if they are intended to be easy at least. I don't really have found a game that makes me go that is too easy, but some are a bit on the border though
Sure, I've played easy games, but I can't remember playing a game that I thought was 'too easy' unless I specifically set it that way myself. But then, I don't really trust my memory on things like that.
Not many games I play are too easy for me, but that's partly because I mostly play "grown up" oriented games that are geared to experienced gamers who have practiced reflexes and an understanding of modern game design. The only games I find too easy are ones that are specifically made primarily for young gamers. Pokémon of course, and most recently Ni No Kuni 2, though I'm getting a flash back to a GBA or DS Mario vs Donkey Kong game that was waaaaaay easier than the Gameboy Donkey Kong game that inspired it. There are loads of challenges to make Pokémon harder, but not every game has the possibility for a low-level-challenge or something like it. For instance, NNK2 has no difficulty settings, the level rate is fast enough that even if you avoid most battles (a boring choice) each boss fight will solidly level you a few levels to catch you right back up, and even your reserve party members gain exp. All you can do is choose to not use special skills, and even then it's way easy.
Look, I suck at gaming. An easy game or easy mode, something like Hero Mode in Splatoon 2, is incredibly difficult to me.
I always like a challenge, but if I can beat a Pokémon game on nuzlocke on the first playthrough without knowing what I'm walking into, then that game is way too easy cause I'll be the first to admit that I'm not good at gaming at any level. Besides that one small example, I can't think of any games that I've played that I considered to be too easy cause each game always have their own certain type of challenge that is unique to them, imo.
I would actually classify the Dark Souls games as this. These games are played up massively for their difficulty, but I was let down quite a bit by it. I was expecting something significantly more unfair - or just badly designed - than what I got, and none of them caused me any particular difficulty. I died a few times, which is unusual for me in video games these days, but I took that as a part of the learning process. A lot of games that are classified as "hard" these days just have very strict patterns that just require a set response from the player. If you can give that response, it's very simple...it's just learning what that is. Hard for me is randomised AI, consistent single-hit kills from everything, limited resources, prohibited grinding, no way to exploit...things that stack the deck against you in favour of a brutally cunning AI. The Souls games were easily exploited and divined with enough play, and so they were easy to beat. At least for me. But it was the expectation of difficulty that made them too easy for me, because what I expected was not what I got. I've never been put off by a game's lack of difficulty, though - I generally welcome the opportunity to relax and enjoy myself. I play to have fun, not for a challenge...sometimes the two things go hand-in-hand, but if they do not then that's OK. I never go out of my way to challenge myself; I'm happy to let the game set the pace for me and enjoy it for what it is, rather than try and make it into what it is not.
XY and ORAS. Pokémon games usually aren’t that hard, but Gen 6 made it boring for me. Even with the exp share off it doesn’t offer much of a challenge.
