Maybe this idea will die out but until then I'm wondering if it's worth it to get BW/BW2 now? They're going for pretty cheap now that X and Y are out and I'd like to play it just for the sake of it. Plus if I get it I'll be able to transfer my Pokémon from gen 4 (which I already own) to gen 6 which would really help my Pokédex and my teams.

Main problem though is Is it worth it? I heard something like the Global Link was shut down and some services no longer run or something. No clue what that means tho... :s

Also, what's the difference between BW vs BW2? Which one should I get?

I think you really should get either Black 2 or White 2. There isn't much of a point in playing Black and White when Black 2 and White 2 are a lot better. Also those games have a quite a bit of things to do in them and have tons of legendaries that you could transfer to X/Y. So yeah, I'd say its worth it.

I like the character design for the girl in BW.

What's better in the sequels? Better graphics? More Pokémon? Better plot?

In my opinion after I got Black 2 I never played Black again because Black 2 had much more to do post game wise. B2/W2 have more to do and more legendaries. I believe that the global link was shut down just means you can't do things online over long distance like black and white's equivalent of the GTS. I'm pretty sure you can still transfer Pokémon to Black and White.

The sequels have the same graphics for the most part (aside from a couple new areas), since they came out within a couple years of each other and are part of the same generation and region. BW2 definitely have more Pokémon, with Pokémon from previous generations joining the native Unova Pokémon. In BW, the only Pokémon you could find in the main game were Unova Pokémon, which did give a unique feel to the region, but a lot of players weren't fond of that.

However, the original BW games had the much better plot, in my opinion. The characters were better, the plot didn't feel rushed, and it fit into the region very well. If you decide to skip BW and go straight to BW2, I at least highly recommend either reading up about the BW plot or watching videos or Let's Plays about it, since it gets referenced a lot in BW2. You may be a bit confused about the characters and general storyline without some backstory.

Either way, both BW and BW2 are great games, and while I do recommend you play the first games before you play the sequels, it is up to you which you would rather play. If you like an interesting, new feel to a game and a great plot, go with BW. If you like a wider variety of Pokémon to catch and some more areas to explore, go with BW2.

I really didn't like BW1 at all. It was painful for me to play through and the lack of any other Pokémon but Unova ones was really disappointing, especially because I didn't like any of their designs (I like a lot of them now, but still). It felt like everything in BW was in slow motion, despite the new features. It was really disappointing in my opinion, and you're much better off buying BW2 for these reasons:
    • Beside a few references to BW1, you're not going to miss out on much by going straight to BW2.
    • You have tons of Pokémon available.
    • In BW2, you have the option to move more than one Pokémon at a time. This is not incorporated in BW and moving the Pokémon you have to transfer to Box 1 is so much easier than doing it one by one.
    • There are some really cool areas (like the Marine Tube) with nice graphics
    • You have access to the alternate forms of Kyurem and the three sages (Landorus and the like).
    • There's a movie-making minigame.
    • You can battle every past Gym Leader or Elite Four member in a place called the World Tournament; however, this is post game.
I'm not 100% sure on this but I think the ability to reuse repel without re-opening your bag was incorporated in BW2, but that might've been in the first ones.

    Hope I helped.

Oh man this is hard lol

BW1: Plot, character designs. I actually like the idea of using just Unova pkm for the main plot since that'll make me familiar with the gen 5 pkm (In pkm y I don't think I used any gen 6 at all in the main story :/ ). The other gen Pokémon come back post game tho right?

BW2: More Pokémon, more legendaries, larger post game, world tournament, repels :P

I'm being swayed to go with BW2. Unfortunately, being the newer game they're more expensive (like double the price idek y)...which kinda sways me back to BW1....

In the EB games around here, BW are still running for more than their respective sequels, which doesn't make sense to me.

For all it's worth, go with the sequels. The character design won't mean much when you get into the same battles over and over, I thought the plots were relatively on par with each other (except the sequels don't spend your first few towns trying to teach you as slowly as possible how grass beats water beats fire beats grass like you're a bloody two year old), there are more areas in the sequel, more available Pokémon and things to do in the sequel (PWT, Black Tower/White Tree Hollow, etc), and there are more legendaries to catch, which will be better for completing the dex. You'll get used to the Unova Pokémon better if they're alongside the originals you like, instead of forcing them all down your throat at once. The repels are improved in both games, not just the sequels.

The original and the sequels have their fair share of good character arcs and massive twats, only they seem to switch roles between games. It won't matter though, the plot is the plot and they're childish characters who spell everything out for you anyway. The point is, the sequels have more to offer, and you'll get to the end (where Poketransfer is) quicker with a larger variety of Pokémon to catch.

Personally, I thought the plot in BW2 was much better than BW1, but there's a serious lack of older gen. Pokémon even in postgame. In addition, BW2 has hidden grottos that have a huge amount of Pokémon that all have their Hidden Abilities, as well as items. It's well worth the price, honestly.

Well I'm convinced for BW2 now :P Now to find a cheap place to buy one....anyone know any legit stores that sell used games for cheap other than EB games? (which is just highway robbery btw. Futureshop and Walmart sell cheaper)

If not ebay it shall be

I actually really liked BW1. It's not any different from gen2 and 3, especially 3, where that gen's Pokémon were the most abundant. (which is likely why I disliked gen3) I really liked the plot of it, too. It was....a lot deeper than previous Pokémon games. I won't say I liked it better than BW2, but it's definitely not a bad plot, and having gen5 Pokémon forces you to appreciate ones you otherwise wouldn't think twice about.

    I preffered BW2.
I enjoyed the story just as much as the first one. (I still recommed reading BW's story before playing just to be in the loop)
The gym leaders are more of a challenge since they have the older gen pkmn as well as the new.
And you can use just unovan pkmn if you want either way, just have to resist using old ones (BW2 was also the first game where eevee was catchable so that helps :P)
I would suggest going to amazon or gamestop and purchasing a used copy to cut the price even more (heck you might be able to get both if they are cheap enough). I buy alot of used games from Gamestop and none have had/caused any problems so far.

Amazon is more expensive than my futureshop. EB games I think is our Gamestop in Canada (or at least I've never seen a gamestop) and they're notoriously expensive. Plus their used price for BW2 is like only $5 less than new. :/ Right now the leading winner is Futureshop lol. It could be Walmart if they ever get it back in stock (speaking of which, once gen 5 pkm games get sold out are they still releasing new copies?)

I've decided I'll probably buy Black 2. And if I need the story I'll find a ROM and play on emulator...I do agree on the "better appreciation for the gen 5 pkm" part too.

I'd say get BW2! There's a lot of Pokémon you could transfer over from it, and it seems like it'll be necessary to get if you're wanting to transfer Pokémon over from Gen 4 games. If you feel like you need to play BW1 in order to fully enjoy BW2, just play a ROM, so you won't have to fork out money for the first games of gen 5 :)

I've replayed the sequels so many times, but find it hard to go back to Black and White. They're fun, but the sequels are way more replayable.

Poketransfer is available in the first two games, so that won't be much of an issue.

I think what she means is the fact B/W 2 comes with a lot more Pokémon to be found.

She seemed to imply that only the sequels could transfer old Pokémon, that's all.
