As of now, we have 802 Pokémon, not to mention the Alolan forms and Mega Evolutions. That's a lot.

When I was thinking about Generation 8, I was considering the future of Pokémon, and I wondered if there would ever be a cap of having too many Pokémon. We are sitting at 800+ and that's a lot to remember. I personally feel like they can keep going as long as they want. When they hit 1000+, I feel like we should talk then.

What do you think? Is there such thing as too many Pokémon? When should the limit be? How many should they announce for Generation 8?

Honestly, I don't think there is such a thing as too many Pokémon. I've always liked seeing new Pokémon and I feel like they can keep going on and on as long as they have imagination.

Also, I've never really had a problem memorizing all the Pokémon, but that's just me.

I don't think it's much of a problem, to be honest. Having more Pokémon means there's more possibilities for teams, and I love it when a bunch of new ones are introduced.

I love all the new Pokémon introduced, and I'm always excited when they introduce more. I can't wait to see what they have in store for generation 8. I personally don't think that there's such a thing as too many Pokémon. It's not like there's going to be a pop quiz and we'll be expected to remember every single Pokémon ever created.

I don't think there will ever be too many. It's primarily because they're released in batches and we're given at least two years to adjust and remember them before the series move on to the next generation...so I've never had a huge problem remembering. Sometimes I forget names of a couple of the gen VII Pokémon (or can't remember their English names, since I watch the subbed SuMo anime where Japanese names are used) but that's only because I haven't played gen VII as long as previous gens (thanks busy schedule). I'd be cool with up to 150 new Pokémon so we have time to get to know them all.

I don't think there's too many, if they didn't add new ones the franchise probably wouldn't have thrived as much because thing didn't change. Although if we ever hit 1000 mons I think I'll start having trouble remembering them too lol. For gen 8 at least 100 new mons would be ideal I think, just because less than 100 each new gen just seem like so little.

800 is a lot, and I can understand when people say they have trouble remembering all the new mons (especially if they've been out of the Pokémon loop for a while). However, it really isn't as hard as one may think to memorize names, especially if you play the games they're introduced in. Once you see them enough, you eventually begin to pick up on their names. Maybe there are "too many" Pokémon, but unless you're just now getting into the series, I don't think there's a problem with it.

800 is indeed a lot, and as someone who officially started in gen 5, i DID feel a bit overwhelmed at there being a grand total of 649 Pokémon running around. But after a while it gets easy to at least remember the mon exists, and as Sheep said earlier, we ARE given ample time to learn about the new region's Pokémon.

There's no such thing as "too many Pokémon". What can certainly be a troublesome fact about their big amount of species is how well they are managed. If they are all well designed and well spreaded across the region they appear in that's just good. If neither of the new ones they introduce feels pointless, then there's no problem aside of the need of a good memory.

Still, if they reached the gigantic number of 1500 or something like that, there could be "safety" measures to not overwhelm new players (and those wouldn't be having some of the old ones to not appear in the game's code, that doesn't fix like.. anything :s)

I honestly just want them to take some time, really filter out the bad from the good, and then hit big with one last massive generation that gets the total up to 1000 Pokémon (or 1001, because we know there's going to be an additional mythical Pokémon or something).

Realistically though, it's Pokémon, they're not going to stop for anything. They'll keep making new guys until the end of time!
