Inspired somewhat by the Germanwings plane crash, let's talk about bringing transportation and robotics together and whether or not it would be a good idea.

There're benefits and drawbacks to having robots or programs control buses, ships, planes etc, but also when it comes to humans having control. Humans can tire and lose focus for example, but faulty programming can bring the same effect with non-humans.
The fear of robots and such would also deter a few people, but what do you guys think?

Should humans remain in control, or should robots take control of transportation instead?

This may be off-topic, but it seems like the Germanwings crash was intentional by the co-pilot.

EDIT: Anyways, I'm for robotics, just not in transportation. If something goes wrong with a robot and it can't fix it, good luck, have fun. As far as drones go (kinda riding off of Nator here), I'm for them. Robots can make a huge impact and it seems that things like drones have a better positive effect than a negative effect.

I don't mind robots being put to use if it wouldn't damage the economy in any way. If factory workers (hypothetically) were to be replaced by robot workers, that would be an example of a devastating blow to the unemployment rate, and in turn, would hurt the economy. I'm all for technology, and I'm a tech savvy guy, but technology should always have its limits in certain areas.

As for transportation, humans are the safest best. When humans make an error, it's generally not as impacting as a machine. I'm also against the use of drones (especially surveillance drones that fly over our skies. Amazon is starting to implement drone delivery. They're gonna have some serious liability issues if one of their machines malfunctions and crashes onto something or someone, causing some major damage.

Robotics and Transportation don't go together, but will eventually cross over one day.
If you look at it, we have cars that recognize our voice!
We need humans to drive, but humans aren't perfect. We do make mistakes like these, and lives are lost. But that's the risk that transportation's had since forever! Besides that, I think another reason would be that I don't trust a robot driving my car.
