Personally I dislike the idea of Trubbish; it is literally a bag of garbage with eyes on it, and so is Garbodor. I believe a lot of fans dislike these Pokémon because the design isn't original; a garbage bag Pokémon and an ice cream cone Pokémon. The designs could've been a little more interesting, but Trubbish and Vanillite and literally garbage bags and ice cream cones with a face.

I like them, their designs are really cute! I get that some people dislike them because they're designs are "unoriginal." But then again, what makes a Pokémon design original? They're all based off of something else. Charizard is based off of a dragon, and he's one of the most loved Pokémon out there- along with a lot of the other dragon types. There are lots of Pokémon based off of animals. So, in my opinion, Trubbish and Vanillite are kind of original; they're based off of items instead of animals.

I think they're pretty cool, actually. Being based off of items instead of animals, for once. It's not "running out of ideas", it's working with what you have and being innovative. Original concept. I used to not like them very much, but now I think they're really cool.

I rather love both of them, tbh. I don't get it why people hate them. I mean, Geodude is just a rock with face and arms and they still like it! I have to agree strongly with Vanillite (oh lol) about this. :) She stated it quite wonderfully.

I love both of them. I think the only reason people don't like them is because they're new. "Oh, those Pokémon are based off of inanimate objects. That's lame!" But if you think about it gen. 1 had inanimate object Pokémon. Geodude is a rock.... that they stuck arms on. Seriously and you complain about these two Pokémon?

Grimer and Muk were literally piles of sludge, trash. It's the same thing pretty much. I notice a lot of people seem to prefer Pokémon just because it was the game they started with.

In a lot of ways I prefer Trubbish over a lot of other Poison types. He's cute in the weirdest possible way, and Trubbish seems rather similar to Voltorb to me. They both seem like experiments gone wrong.

Vanillite isn't one of my favorite Pokémon, but I can't say I hugely dislike that one either.

So... Basically... To cut this short. The ice cream is adorable and Trubbish is still more creative that Muk the pile of crap.

I preferred Vanillite over Trubbish but I didn't think either were worse than some of the concepts that have already been created. Like many have said already, they were original and although their designs don't really differ from the actual real-life objects that they were based off, they are still somewhat appealing.

I don't hate them, in fact I actually like their designs. Trubbish is a garbage bag, so what? Muk, voltorb, and megnetmite are all inanimate objects too. As for vanillite, I loved his design from the moment I saw it. Why? Because I freaking love ice cream! Now they have Swirlix who is cotton-candy, me and my sweet tooth are in pure heaven

Yup, as others said, they're hated because they're said to be "unoriginal." People forget just how "unoriginal" Gen 1 Pokémon were (a Pokéball with eyes that evolves into a bigger Pokéball with eyes...)

I've heard though that people dislike Vanillite because it's based on food and that makes using it awkward. Which is why there was a big laugh when Swirlix was announced. But really, if you look at the big picture of Pokémon, it doesn't make sense to complain about these things. It's just what Pokémon is.

I don't like Garbodor, but only because the idea is just gross to me. I don't like Muk or Weezing for the same exact reason.

I love Trubbish. I personally prefer it, over other "item" Pokémon, like Grimer, Voltorb and Magnemite. Vanilite...I just cannot make myself like. At all. I get item Pokémon. Okay. That's cool. But food? I don't want to battle it. I want to eat it.

I do like these Pokémon a lot, the types/moves/etc.. but, I do have one exception.....and that is what they resemble (Ice Cream and A Bag of Trash). I mean, really? I thought Pokémon were to be unique creatures, not resemble things of the real world (That's why it's a virtual world/game!) :<

I think they are pretty cute, and I think if they were gen 1 Pokémon, they wouldnt get any of this hate. :P However, Garbodor is one of my least favorite Pokémon. It gets abit of love just for being a Pokémon, but I just dont like it that much.

I don't buy into the whole 'unoriginal design' malarkey. We've never seen anything like these Pokémon before, so they are in fact original. The problem is that people don't like them.

And now before someone bursts out from under a rock and belches the 'but Grimer and Muk are the same thing as Trubbish and Garbodor' line, you should know that there is a difference. Grimer and Muk have the benefit of being amorphous piles of sludge, which in itself is a unique idea. Trubbish and Garbodor are specifically bags of human waste, and while that's unique (in that it's not been done before), it's just not appealing and doesn't hold the same interest as Grimer and Muk. Sometimes I imagine that Trubbish is just a Koffing that was tied inside a garbage bag. They feed on garbage fumes, so it would make sense for it to stay in the bag. Then when it evolves, the bag breaks, and you get Garbodor.

Moreover, with the addition or the Trubbish line, we have Pokémon that represent three types of pollution: land, represented by Trubbish; sea, represented by Grimer; and air, represented by Koffing.

Vanillite is different. It's the first Pokémon that is strictly a foodstuff, and as people have posted above, that makes it a bit awkward. People sometimes argue that Exeggcute is the same because we eat eggs, but that's different; eggs are a natural thing in the world and they aren't strictly food. Vanillite however is a man-made foodstuff with a face. Apparently it came into existence when a mysterious ray of light touched some ice cream, but I don't really buy into the magical 'it came to life' gambit unless the Pokémon is in some way amorphous, like Magnemite, Klink, and Voltorb.

Pokémon clearly use some kind of magic, or how else would you explain some of their moves? I'm pretty sure in the card game some of the moves are labelled under magic too. And now we have fairy type as well which is magic orientated. All of the other inanimate Pokémon probably came the same way as Vanilite did.

I like Trubbish, no problems with it. Took me a little while to get used to it but in the end I can accept it. Vanillite however I still just think looks stupid, the concept being just a little too fanciiful. If you're going to have food based Pokémon they should be based on fruit and natural things at most. Not a huge fan of that line.

I liked Vanillite from first sight. I never knew it received hate.

I don't have any logical explanation why Trubbish got hate either, even though I'm not the most fond of it. I just personally find it a little creepy.

i like them both as Pokémon, i actually prefer trubbish to vanillite, i think is weirdly cute and garbodour just makes me laugh. vanillite i'm not a big fan of but i won't say the line has a bad design, more like i'm not a huge fan of most cutesy Pokémon. and vanillite happens to fit that bill. i'm not a fan of swirlix either for that reason.
