UCL Style League?

Hey everybody. I'm currently running a UCL-style league with members from a different forum and it's running pretty smoothly, with only some slight hiccups from certain players not being reliable. Because of how interesting the dynamic of the league has been so far, I would love to do it again. I'm just posting to ask if anybody on here would be interested in joining such a league. For anybody unfamiliar, the UCL is a league with a counter-teaming dynamic. Essentially, each player drafts 3 Pokémon from each Smogon tier (OU,UU,RU and NU(PU and NFE included)) and each week builds a team with the knowledge of the 12 Pokémon their opponent has drafted. The format rules are standard OU, and once Pokémon have been drafted they can be traded, but only for Pokémon within the same tier. Each player will play all other players and the top 4 will make it to play offs.

So would anybody be interested in joining? We would need players who are reliable, who will not just disappear off the face of the earth for a week and preferably who are somewhat flexible with their schedule. We are only in week 3 of 9 and that is excluding play-offs so this would begin most likely close to the start of next year. There will be 11 seats to fill (as there will be 12 players and I will be competing), but I am giving priority to those involved in the current league as I know they are reliable, so I am unsure of how many spaces will be able

Even if you are not interested in joining the league but are familiar with the format, do you have any suggestions on how we could spice up the league?

 

Glad to see people already taking interest! This would take place quite a long time from now, almost definitely after New Year, so hopefully people are still interested by then.

But it really is great fun, and it's not easy making a team of 6 to beat 12 potential Pokémon so it's a pretty fun challenge.

Edit: Oh and if anybody hasn't seen the UCL, even if you aren't interested in joining my league, I would seriously recommend watching some of the battles. It's really interesting to watch and you would be just in time for play-offs to start.

 

Oh we'd most likely just do it on showdown. That's what we're doing at the moment and it just makes things a lot easier, considering a big part of the competition is rewatching your opponents replays and that's far easier to do on showdown. And the fact that you don't need to breed/gen your Pokémon every single week is huge.

 

The way that we did the draft for the league that I'm running at the moment is that for each tier (OU,UU,RU,NU) we randomly generated an order for when each player gets a pick. That order then snaked, so that if you were first for the 1st pick OU pick, you would be last for the 2nd OU pick, and first again for the 3rd and final OU pick. We changed the order after every tier to make it so that players who weren't satisfied with where they came in the draft order weren't necessarily stuck there.

I'm open to suggestions if you have a better idea, but it was better than anything I could come up with and it was how they did it in the UCL.

 

I'm actually unfamiliar with how the GBA does it, could you explain it?

 

Hmmm, it sounds interesting, I just don't feel there's much point over complicating it. I think the idea of picking 3 from each tier would just simplify the draft process and make it less likely for somebody to somehow screw up and run out of points or something.

 

Yeah I'm considering it. It would add a cool dynamic, but it also means that I need to trust 10+ people not to screw up which I hate because I can be a bit of a control freak haha

Oh, does anybody have any suggestions for a good name for the league? The league I am currently running is called the Fan Made Draft League (FMDL), so if there are no better suggestions I guess we can keep that name.
