A place with no crime, a place where you could live your life without worries and see smiles on everyone's faces. Do you guys think its just a fantasy or would it be possible for people to live with one-another peacefully and happily?

What's your own idea of a utopia? What would our Utopian society look like, and what would it have?

My Utopia would be a place where people wouldn't have to live in a life where government nor religion sticks their nose where it doesn't belong. There would be widespread civil and economic freedoms. The freer the people, the lower the crime rate. And speaking of crime, there would be no such thing as a victimless crime; meaning people have a right to do what they please with their own body. There would be no income tax or corporate tax on people, allowing for the creation of more jobs, with better pay & benefits for employees, resulting in people being able to independently live without government welfare. Inflation would always be well under control. Our dollar would actually mean something, and producing something like a penny wouldn't cost more than it's worth. Healthcare would be private, but very affordable & efficient. Same with education. My thriving economy would ensure that even the average Joe could afford all this, and then some.
The only "tax" would be one Federal consumption tax (a small sales tax of maybe 5-7%), in which people would individually vote to what they want their tax dollars spent on.
My country would have some military defense, but the military is to only stay within the borders of the country to protect citizens. Our nation would do everything in its might to prevent wars from starting in the first place. If we do engage in a war, it's strictly out of self-defense; not because we were the antagonists.

I could go on all night about different issues, but above is a general idea of what my utopia would be like. Freedom from government & religion, and the right to one's own wealth and well-being, without fear of somebody telling them what they can and can't do on a daily basis.

Utopia sounds like an awful idea, because right now I'm running on coffee and schadenfreude.

I think it would be pretty cool, but nothing is every going to be perfect, sadly. :(

In my opinion, utopia is not only possible, but bound to happen.

The evidence is everywhere - in the machine you're using to read this post, in the miraculous cell phone you've got sitting nearby, in the dozens of tiny intelligent devices surrounding you every moment of your life. Technology is advancing in some amazing ways - this much is obvious. However, what many people don't realize is that this effect is cumulative. Each discovery contributes to the next - each new device or technique gives us more time and resources to devote to advancing the human race. The result? Each day, we discover more than the last. The rate at which we develop new technologies is increasing exponentially. What once would've taken decades of research and study can now be accomplished in a matter of months.

This has some truly profound implications. In the words of Arthur C. Clarke, "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Simply put, anything is possible with the right tools. We are discovering those tools, faster than ever before. Within the next few decades, many scientists and researchers predict we will reach a point called "technological singularity," a point where we build intelligent machines capable of improving themselves independent of human intervention. Once this happens, once a machine is able to become vastly more intelligent than any human ever was, our entire world will change. Human technology will progress beyond anything we can imagine, and anything will be possible. Immortality, limitless resources, interstellar colonization... all this will be possible.

Most predict technological singularity will be achieved around 2040. The word "utopia" won't even begin to describe the society that will follow.

Utopia doesn't sound possible to me. What lengths would people go through to maintain peace? Sure there might not be crime as we know it, but how would the definition of crime have changed in a utopian society?

    Maybe I'm over-thinking things.

I'd like the idea of a Utopia, but I just don't think it's possible. The world won't be perfect, not now, not ever.

However, my own idea of one is one where everyone respects others.

You're gay/bisexual/asexual/pansexual/whatever-sexual? Good for you! Hope you find someone!

You're transgender/nonbinary/demi/whatever? Great to hear it! I'm happy you found your identity!

You're religious/not religioius? Awesome! Just don't harm others with it or make others uncomfortable, and I'm rooting for you!

You're a person of color? More power to you! May prejudice never keep you from being yourself!

Really, all I want is a world where people won't try and persecute others for being who they are. You wouldn't think that's much to ask, but I suppose it is, if you look at the state of the world and what some people are doing with it.

No matter what we do, utopia will never exist. We humans have far too many imperfections to make it a perfect world. The world's always at war, and blind to the facts that are in front of them. They are jealous of everything,b but all of these qualities make a person human. I've always imagined Utopia as heaven, and nothing else. It's perfect!

They tried to make a utopia. It's called "communism". The biggest problem with utopia is that is ignores one very important factor; human nature.
I agree with azure, if there is a utopia. It'll be heaven. But a utopia created by humans needs to be watched carefully.

Utopia is an impossible concept if created by human hands. Humans are flawed, self-seeking, and fiercely independent creatures. Such ideals will come to terms with each other, and potentially come to blows as well. As long as one human being has conflicts of interest with any other human being, a utopia will not exist.

Any utopia that would exist must be brought into existence by divine creation. By human hands alone, it simply will not, and does not, exist.

As for what I believe utopia to look like? I cannot answer that question. I base my conclusions based on what I have seen and heard. While I know that divine utopia can very well exist, and may very well do so in the future, I cannot say what that actually looks like. Thus, I say what it will be, not what I think it will be.
