VGPoll #2 - Woohoo! Mario!

Gotta go with Mario 3D World. They did a really good job of making a three-dimensional 4 player Mario game, and it's easily one of my favorite modern day Mario games to date.

 

I have huge nostalgia over games like New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 64, but my overall favorite has to be Galaxy. The whole open-world sense of it was magical to me growing up, and it was a huge part of my childhood. I could say 3D World, but I feel like 64 and Galaxy were the ones that really kindled that genre. Not to mention that Rosalina is one of my favorite characters in gaming ever.

 

You can't beat the originals, but enjoyed Super Mario 64, since I grew up playing it a lot. For a 3D Mario game it was really good, enemies was a bit clever, and the colors and... The piano...

 

Super Mario 3D World wins this one for me. It is SUCH a good game and easily the best Mario game that I've ever played.

 

I've never even played 3D World but it looks amazing so consider that my top choice. *~* Luckily I've seen full playthroughs and it is so high up on my next to-get game list. Pretty! Otherwise I've never played any bar one of the older Mario games for NES and Sticker Star, the latter of which was waaay too confusing without guides.

 

Super Mario World on SNES! It was so tough choosing between that and Mario 64 (on the N64, the DS version was terrible imo).
Mario World was like Mario 3 amplified times 1000! The ability to go to any level and play it as many times as you wanted back then was just awe-inducing. The gameplay was perfect for a 2D Mario game, the secret exits gave it a lot of replay value, the challenge was at a perfect level for a Mario game (inb4 Tubular), the graphics were colorful and amazing (for its time), and the music was catchy beyond anything. On top of it all, it had 2-player co-op. It was always fun stealing all of your friend's lives when they had their head turned.

 

Personally I loved Super Mario Galaxy 2 most. It was better than the first, and had unimaginably great graphics for a Mario game on the Wii. New items. a free-roaming game, graphics that are insane, challenges that are harder than they should be.. Had some great times playing that game.
