I just wanted to know if you like games where the main character breaks the forth wall and talks to the audience such as Bards Tale he is constantally talking to the narator and making jokes to the audience or dead pool is the same thing.

personally i like games that the main character is self awear and know that they are being controlled by somone and that opens up alot of options.

but i want to know what you think.

    thanks.

I really like how Deadpool is breaking the fourth wall. I think there should be more characters like this.

i agree, there should be more characters in games who break the forth wall but only in certain games as it will ruin the immersion in games likeSkyrim.

I find it very entertaining. A game people do this a lot (and I mean A LOT) is Kid Icarus: Uprising, and that's one of the reasons the game is so great. Also the moments in Paper Mario and the 1000 Year Door where they broke the fourth wall were pretty amusing too.

I love it when they do that. Referencing other shows or real life situations. I wish more games did something like that. It would definitely make things more interesting. Hell, even if they had a character knock on the "screen" or break "your screen" is funny too. Like I had a game where if you ignored him long enough, he'd fire a rock from his sling shot at your screen and it would make animated cracks on it. Until you moved, then it vanished.

There are very few games that do it right so I don't really like it at all. It is pretty awesome in the Paper Mario series though.

I enjoy when characters break the fourth wall, its really funny most of the time. I can't think of any games that I've played recently that have this feature, and its kind of sad.

Conker's Bad Fur Day has a bit of that. The first Metal Gear Solid game had lots of stuff like that too.

I don't really pay attention to characters doing that, but I think I remember in Super Paper Mario the guy who gives you the flip power does it at one point. What I love is when characters go "you can move around by touching the stylus to the screen, what ever that means." or something like that.
Are you sure Kid Icarus breaks the fourth wall? I know they make reference to what characters looked like in past games, but I don't remember Palutena (I forget how to spell it), Viridi, or Pit talk to you. Then again, I really don't understand the concept anyways.

Personally I feel like fourth-wall breaking can be overdone. It's best used in incidental moments that you don't see coming, rather than being intentionally designed as a regular bit of humor.

During the final boss battle with Giygas in Earthbound, Paula asks you to pray to lend them strength. She asks YOU, the person who's playing.

I like it when it happens randomly. I know I've met with it a few times, but the only two instances I remember and enjoyed happened with the same characters, Jak and Daxter. I loved it in Jak 3 when Seem says to the two all serious-like; "This isn't a game" and then Jak and Dax just stare at the 'player.' <3 The second time then was in Playstation All-Stars; one of their intro's involved Daxter knocking on the 'screen' again. Quite good.

I don't really remember any video games that I've played where this occurs but I think one that comes to mind is Crash Bandicoot. I haven't played the game in a long time so I could be wrong. I think something like this also happens somewhere in Rachet and Clank 3, although I'm unsure. It's a nice thing to have in a game and it lightens the mood. I think some of the newer games should have a few moments like these just to add something different to the storyline.

one noones likely thinking of is the early sonics. its a minor crack, rather than breaking realy. When you stand there long enough, he starts tapping his foot and looking to you to do something, looking kinda pissed. :P

There's a mini game called Hangaroo that I used to play. The kangaroo continuously talks to the player and makes snide comments. Warcraft also has a few characters that when you click on them too many times they begin to talk to you, telling you to stop.

Actually, a lot of games do this. Even if they otherwise don't break the wall, their idle animations involve looking "at the screen" and being all "Yeah, OK. Do something."

A game I've played that's pretty good is Contact, for DS. That game doesn't have a fourth wall. It just doesn't.

GUESS WHAT GAME I'M GONNA MENTION. You probably guessed right.

Honestly though, I normally hate fourth-wall breaking. When I first got Borderlands, I wasn't much of a gamer, so I would (and still do) set the controller down to do something else, and when the idle characters started talking about "whoever is moving" them, I had to laugh, simply because I wasn't expecting it and it seemed as though THEY KNEW I WAS DERPING. I'm glad they kept that, in the second game. It's made for some fun conversations, with my group.
