With the incline of the production of more and more violent videogames, do you believe violent videogames, be it first person shooter games such as Call of Duty or not, cause violence in the real world? If you don't, do you believe violent videogames have a positive or negative effect on the world around us?

I honestly don't believe that violent video games cause violence in kids or that sort of stuff. I play a whole bunch of Hack and Slash video games, I love them a lot. Do you see me going around with a katana or something trying to beat up hundreds of people though? No, I don't. I would hate the idea of actually hurting a person. I think that maybe with little kids who are really impressionable are more affected, and they realistically shouldn't be playing the sorts of video games that will leave a bad impression on them. Anyone who doesn't understand the different between real life and a virtual world's rules should not be playing things like CoD or GTA...

Hmmmm... I would say Yes, but let me explain.

We are learning about human mind every day more and more, but what has been known for a long time, is that children's brains learn by mimicking.

Since kids from ages 0-15 are in constant state of growing, If a child is subjected to violent material, that kids mind grows more accepting for violence, this is a fact. It is reasonable to claim, that video games, music videos, movies and other media are molding our young's minds. So yes. In right conditions, video games make people more accepting to violence and when said person is older, that might take a very, very ugly turn.

But... a big BUT(t)! This is the point where a drag parents to this. Since video games are so horrible and GTA made your kid idolize crime and violence, WHY ON EARTH YOU BOUGHT IT TO YOUR KID!?! This all boils down for PARENTS responsibility. These kids can't buy these games with their lunch money. And even if they had the money, because there is this thing called Entertainment Software Rating Board, ESRB for short. These are those symbols and letters in EVERY single game EVER created, which indicate what the content is about and to who its suited for. You can't blame any game developer for their content having effect your child. You yourself caused that by buying a game for audience, that it is not suited for.

Tips for parents. Monitor what your kids are subjected to through media. Do research before you buy anything and, for the love of God, note ESRB. Its not made to control you. They are made to protect people. I myself have played Metal Gear series as 15 year old and it has not effected me negatively in anyway, cuz my parents were aware what i played and they trusted, that am old enough to understand the subject matter. I am pretty sure, that our generation will understand what our kids should play and what they should not.

Peace and give your kids all the Pokemons, Marios, Zeldas, Jaks, Spyros and all the other GOOD games ;)

It's a "nes"(yes + no) for me. Most of the gamer boys I see nowadays love guns, punching, and other violent thingies. I'm not going to generalize though because I've played GTA games and all those other 1st person shooters as a child, and I haven't gone violent at all. I know many other people who are just like me, too.

However, I've noticed that lately more and more children are becoming really violent. My family runs a pre-school and we've been having cases of children attacking each other in recent years — something we didn't encounter back when I was still studying in that pre-school. Most of them were either exposed to violent TV shows or violent video games. Now that I think about it, the number of violent video games in the market have been increasing by quite a lot lately.

However, I believe that with proper guidance from their parents, the children can avoid becoming violent in real life while still enjoying those types of video games.

See, this is a real toughie. I feel that at most, no, it doesn't Most people are capable of separating the two (real world and video game world) from each other. In general, they may change attitudes, but certainly don't cause things like violence a lot of the time.

You see, the reason why I say "at most", is because there are a few people who just don't understand. People who become desensitized from the real world, and view everything as a video game, leading to some horrible cases. Sometimes, people go too far, and end up hurting themselves, and other people around them.

But, to be honest, those cases are very small in number. In reality, games don't really affect people, turning them into slaughtering machines, or brutal killers. They can change a perception, but they won't most of the time make the person become violent.

Oh boy. I wish I could say that violent games don't cause violent behaviors. I really do. Unfortunately, the truth is bitter and hard to swallow, but true all the same. Violent games do, in fact, increase violent tendencies, especially in youth ages 6-18, mainly due to humanity's easily impressionable nature during this time period.

I'm not just theorizing this myself. This is a proven fact. My mother is a doctor of psychology, so I've had the opportunity to see and scrutinized the studies in depth, myself. I didn't want to believe it, either. The fact is the humans, even outside of our early ages of development, are social creatures. Due to this, our thoughts, and, subsequently, our actions, are heavily affected by the people we socialize with, the songs we listen to, the television shows we watch, the books we read, and, obviously, the video games we play. In fact, video games are the second most influential thing on that list, with the first being other humans.

It is absolute fact. Do I think this means that we should ban violent games? No, of course not. I happen to be a pretty big Halo fan and would be horribly saddened if shooters suddenly stopped being made. The solution is simple: individuals simply should moderate their own content. Take breaks and play something innocent and silly every once in a while, watch a comedy show, and do something to get your mind off the violent content before it sticks. People just need to understand that these things can affect them and they should react accordingly to prevent it.

I'm gonna give my opinion on this one. Sadly, of course, I have to agree with Madness that violent games can cause violent tendencies. It's just a simple fact. I watched one of my older brothers go through the stages. I am personally a fan of a few violent games and I don't think we should get rid of them. In fact, I personally believe that the war going on right now is probably a bigger tool in the scheme of violence. Although I support violent games, people need to stop letting their very young children play them. Playing at that young of an age is bad.

That being said, keep them. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Violent video games don't directly make everybody violent. It may indirectly cause that, so that's why we have parents that are hopefully watching their children.

This has been quite the subject for discussion for years since first person shooters rised up from the video game community. I think that it does have a negative influence to the world but it isn't the cause of the violence. The cause of the violence is just up to the person themselves. Sure there can be temptations, taunts, or influences..but it all comes down to the person themselves. Because only they themselves pull the trigger or commit the violent deed.
