Warm ups are a great way to stretch out your hand and to get you going before you start working on big art pieces. Do you guys do warm up sketches or doodles? How long do you warm up for? I'm very guilty because I never do warm ups and boy is my hand paying for it.
What usually happens is I plan to draw something amazing and then it looks awful because I usually take week long gaps in between my drawing sprees... then I go “Oh, it was just a warm up” and frantically doodle another one. In all seriousness, I like to take a face or an object to doodle at the beginning of my “warm up,” nothing too big, and I just doodle it in pen until I find a warm up I like. Then I usually incorporate that warm up into a bigger piece!
All my sketches that aren't for commissions could be classed as 'warm ups' hahah! 99.9% of my doodles are super light and loose and a lot of them never see the light of day. My commissions and like 00.1% of my art I go into the sketching process with a clear idea in my head and often I don't warm up beforehand and my hand/wrist hates me for it hahah.
I think that all of my art is kinda my warm ups. A way for me to keep my art skills from dying out on me.
I never warm up, whooops, unless you count the sketching I do before I actually start the drawing. I probably should start doing doodles more though
