Are there any games out there with characters that really stand out to you, be it for their design or development? Maybe a series with generally well made characters that you find easy to relate to, or intriguing?
Perhaps the game itself is somewhat lacking, but the personalities in it bring you back for a while. Maybe the opposite is true, with the characters being one piece to an overall amazing game. Tell us all about your favourite characters and why you like them!

One extremely well designed character would be Lara Croft from the newest upcoming Tomb Raider game.
What I mean by that is, during E3 , there was a video with the game developers explaining that they've really enhanced her look, from head to toe, down to every single pore.
If you're out in the snow, snowflakes will fall onto your clothes and accumulate. If you're in a fight, you'll get dirty and/or bloody. I think even some scars from the last game transfered over into this one

Here's the video with a better explanation:

It just makes the game all the more exciting imo.

Let's see, I'm going to bring up beautiful Pokémon DPPt and the villainous Cyrus. Now Cyrus is one of those people who is really independent. He's wise, selfish, aloof, and so much more. Being the central villain of the plot really gave a boost to his ego. I mean the guy had people blow up a lake. Well, he did way worse than that. He tried to remake the universe for goodness sake. What I love about him is that he's so dark and psychotic for this kid-friendly RPG, that it makes him way more developed than other characters in the series.

This is a spoiler for Bravely Default (imagine that)
Ringabel. First, if you're going to play the game, don't read this dangit. There's a spoiler for a reason.

Anyways, Ringabel, a.k.a. Alternis Dim, is a character who suffered from amnesia. He knows very well the reason that the group should not do as they are doing, but only as Alternis Dim.

If you don't get what I mean, then you shouldn't be reading this because you haven't played Bravely Default.

    Just Ringabel, okay?
