    Oh, man, where to begin...

*I ran from Moltres. Yeah. In Red Version, somehow my 10-year-old mind didn't link the sudden Moltres encounter with the bird sprite I went up to and pressed A on to talk to. I was out of Poké Balls, so I ran away, thinking I could just find Moltres again.

*Before that, though, I remembered reading in the game's instruction manual about four Pokémon so rare that they each only appeared once, and if you didn't catch them when they showed up, that's it, you were screwed out of it. It didn't mention any of them by name, and this was before I knew about legendary Pokémon. On the same page as that blurb was a picture of an Abra. We skip ahead to my very first Abra encounter. I didn't want to miss my opportunity, so I tried to weaken it. I leave it to your imagination what happened next.

*I thought Farfetch'd evolved into Doduo, Gyarados evolved into Lapras, and that Magikarp didn't evolve at all. Though let's face it, who can blame me for that first one? They're all Normal/Flying-types right next to each other in the Pokédex, similar color schemes, and it went one head, two heads, three heads.

*Used my Master Ball in Ruby on a Shiny Machop in Ruby, because I thought wild Pokémon could still flee like in Generation II. No regrets, though- still have the Machop, it's now a Machamp.

*In Yellow, I taught Rest to my Pidgeotto, and upon realizing it was a move that fully healed it, I started using Pidgeotto above the whole rest of the team, thinking it was the greatest thing ever. By the time I reached the 8th Gym, I had a level 60 Pidgeot, a level 30 Snorlax, a level 28 Tauros (how I managed to catch that, noob that I was back then, still boggles my mind), a level 14 Pikachu, and a level 10 Squirtle and Bulbasaur. Could not get past Giovanni's Rhydon at all. Ended up restarting out of sheer frustration.

*Another time, in Yellow, I used my Master Ball on Zapdos. This, however was when I had a little more knowledge about legendaries, I actually had a plan- I'd use Zapdos's Electric attacks to paralyze and weaken the other legendaries, so I'd be able to catch them easier. And it did work out, so I'm not sure I'd call this especially stupid on my part.

*Then, in Generation II, I ended up using my starter above all else in the end. When I reached Lance, I had a level 60 Feraligatr, a level 18 Togepi, a level 10 Weedle, a level 10 Beedrill, a level 2 Pidgey, and a level twenty-something Goldeen I caught for Waterfall. And it might've gone better than it had, had I not loaded up Feraligatr with HMs. Did not occur to me even once to delete one of Feraligatr's HMs and teach it Ice Punch instead. Yeah. In my mind at the time, Whirlpool was the higher priority.

*Almost released my Wartortle in Red. Back then, I thought the "release" option in the PC would let Wartortle walk behind me like Pikachu did in Yellow. Thankfully, the game warned me that "once released, WARTORTLE is gone forever", and I was given the option to not release it.

Hoo boy, I have a lot of dumb things I did when I was younger.

-I tried to run away from a trainer battle when I was losing. xD

-I thought the trainer on top of Mt. Silver was a random dude. Turns out it was Red ready to kick my unprepared butt...

-Forgot to save when Battling Cobalion. Thankfully I just turned off my game after accidentally defeating him.

-Being lazy and not leveling up my Pokémon when I'm supposed to

-Going waaaay overboard on cheats. I admit I still cheat on older games, but only to pokegen certain Pokémon.

-Falling asleep while playing Pokémon. Oh wait....I still do that! xD

-Leaving certain moves on Pokémon just because I like their move animations. Even if the moves are relatively weak.

I hear that. My Blastoise in Blue kept Bubble Beam long after I got Surf, just because I like the move animation.

When I was younger I had NO IDEA about Pokémon type matchups. So in Pokémon Yellow, I didn't understand why I couldn't beat ground-type Pokémon with my Pikachu... lol.

    my mistakes were... yeah.
I never knew about attack power or accuracy ratings or where to find them so I went with attacks that sounded powerful or looked cool, hence forth why my first charizard in blue version (odd huh) knew scratch.

I thought that the starter you chose in gens 1 & 2 determined the difficulty setting of the game, ex: I thoguht every trainer would be harder because I chose charmander or chikorita and all my friends thought the same thing.

I used the missing no glitch to CLONE MY BIKE!

This is not so stupid but it is because of luck. I found a way to catch missingno and keep it from messing up my game, though I still got rid of it. Seriously just check the stats of a party Pokémon everytime the game messes up and that fixes most of the glitch problems.

I cloned my fossils in blue version though technically not so dumb.

I wook have my Pokémon healed at the Pokémon center 6 times in a row thinking I was sending them on vacation.

I let my moms religious reasons force me out of Pokémon. many years later I ended up leaving the religion. Seriously I had to throw away EVERYTHING!

I thought legendaries could only be caught in a Master Ball so I just killed Kyogre because I missed the Master Ball.

I'm wondering if this one is also counted as stupidity or not, but back then I used to give my Pokémon Rare Candies to Lv. 100 straight away, thinking my 'mon will be very strong just with eating it, until I realized I have to train by being on Pokémon battles too to make it even more stronger (or via Super Training).

Oh, I could write a novel on all of the stupid things I did and thought. But here are a couple of prime examples:

-I thought Ice was weak to Water because of how enough water can melt away Ice, which of course proved catastrophic for me.

-I kept training my starter Pokémon to ridiculous levels while my other Pokémon were pathetically weak. In Pokémon Emerald, I couldn't get past Winona because, while my Sceptile was at a way higher level than her Altaria, I kept losing because my other Pokémon were averaging level 30-40.

-I knocked out a Shiny Rattata by mistake because I used a move that was too powerful for it to handle. Biggest regret of my life, since even my mom had caught Shiny Pokémon.

There's more, but those are the highlights of my idiocy.

I didn't know how to save my game.
I also thought water was weak to ice because it would freeze it, and it was not very effective i thought it was the other type of a Pokémon.
I thought Professor Birch was stupid for dropping his bag. I think Ruby/Sapphire was Birch.
I always thought my mom was the previous champion, or something, because she had ME.

When I was younger, I thought there were some special button combinations I had to press in order to get a 100% capture rate (something involving pressing B and the up button at the same time or spamming the A button) lol. I also thought at one point that if my Pokémon was hit by a physical move, it would gain EV's in the physical attack stat, as with special attacks, speed, and so on. I know, I was dumb.

Like Synerjee, I also believed that holding Down+B would help me catch a Pokémon a lot easier.

I also believed that Mew evolved into Mewtwo.

    Getting stuck in the Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar. It took me literally 2 years to finally figure out how to operate the switches properly. I remember even my asking neighbor, who was good, with computers to do it for me ;;

Some of the types are pretty confusing when you first play so I think it's safe to assume that practically everyone messed that up xD

    A few things:

-Not knowing that you could store Pokémon in the PC in Gold, meaning that i killed the red Gyarados and released one of my precious followers that I've had for almost the entire game to get Ho-oh on my team

-Believing something about LeafGreen I saw online that said to beat the E4 12 times, then go to where Mewtwo was standing in Cerulean Cave and use an escape rope, re-enter the cave and repeat that process to end up "Crystal Mountain" where you can find Mew and Groudon.

-Didn't know that shinies were rare and random so I had my friend search the sky pillar for hours to find himself a golden-eyed Claydol that I was fortunate enough to find in Sapphire.

-After I first discovered what Natures do, I thought I would try to use them to compensate for poor stats, such as trying to find an Impish-frail Pokémon. Or I would try to balance them by using a Brave Breloom in PokemonXD because I wanted to use Mach Punch as well as Giga Drain.

-Thinking Sp.Att and Sp. Def were for super effective attacks.

I thought that you were only able to use 1 Pokémon to I tried to beat Pokémon Platinum with only an Infernape. I did it in the end and it was level 83 XD

    Let's see here

-I chose Pokémon on who I thought looked the coolest
-I never used stat moves, and traded them for attack moves
-All of my teams were HM slaves
-And finally I couldn't best the elite four without cheats.

Keep in mind, I was like this until ORAS. There was a long hiatus in between, but nonetheless I sucked for a while

Ahem, in Diamond I couldn't get to the very last gym and I thought it was a glitch or something, I never realised that it was the part of the storyline. So I got really really upset and ended up restarting the game. And then I later realised...................... (do keep in mind that Diamond was my very first main series game, so I didn't really know what to expect)

Aha! I was hoping to find a thread like this, time to revive it!

Oh man, I was dumb. Very dumb.
    • I assumed that every green Pokémon was weak to fire, because I figured every green Pokémon was bug or grass. Then again, I didn't know the difference between bug and grass
    • Although there was a nifty trainer tutorial (nm, it's boring), I didn't figure out how to catch Pokémon until halfway through my first playthrough, I kept trying to catch other trainers until I realized you could catch wild Pokémon
    • The belief that the right combination on the controller could change the outcome of how likely you are to affect your chances of catching a Pokémon
    • I once started releasing my Pokémon to see what it did, and before I knew all my good Pokémon were gone, and I thought I had lost them forever even though I hadn't saved
I was a dumb child. (Probably am dumber now tbh)
