What got you into gaming or video games in general?

Watching my dad play the original Super Mario Bros. on ye olde NES. One day he gave the controls to me, and I did not want to put them down.

 

Before I was born, my older brother played video games, and I jumped right in. Video games have always been a part of my life starting with PC games.

 

When I was younger, my parents had bought me a Purple GBA with Super Mario Bros. 4 (Remake of SMB 3) and I absolutely adored it. I hadn't come into what you can call "real" gaming until I ditched the Call of Duty titles. No offense to CoD players. I mean I just thought that CoD was the game to play and that everyone who didn't play it wasn't a true gamer. Boy was I so very wrong.

 

Oh gosh I'm not sure. Probably Pokémon, honestly, even though I've played some games before that. It was thanks to Pokémon that I finally started picking up other series and getting a little more involved with gaming overall.. though I'm still a very casual gamer that's very lazy with completing things most of the time, blegh.

 

I got into games because of my brother who had a gameboy color at the time. I was really selfish, so I took his gameboy and began playing it. I regret nothing.

 

My earliest memories were all about watching my brother play our N64 and SNES. Since the games were kept in his room, I'd always barge in to play or watch when I felt like it. It got to the point where I eventually just moved into his room altogether, and we had to get a bunk bed. I'd also play with his GBA Advance a lot, until a day came when our mom smashed it with a hammer. :c But I got a GBA SP and DS Lite after that, so it was okay. Fun times!

 

It more than likely started the year I got the PS1. I was about 4 or 5, and I vividly remember my uncle showing me how to play golf in the Rugrats: Search For Reptar game. I also remember who I played it, and also the first time I played/got all subsequent Sony consoles/handhelds, it's so strange. I can recall the exact moment I played a video game and yet how I got into Pokémon is still lost to me. Hmm.

 

My cousin lending me his GameBoy and Pokémon Blue got me started as a gamer, haha. It was incredible back then, and it's nice to look back on how video games have grown and expanded as a hobby and franchise over the years.

 

My dad got me into video games when he bought me a gameboy and Pokémon red.

 

In 2002 a young girl named Airi Watanabe let me play her Pokémon Gold for a while, that action led me to playing Pokémon till now but it was my cousin who introduced me to other games with his play station. I got to play Kingdom Hearts II which only helped encourage my love of playing games! Also my dad encouraged this behaviour of playing games; he got us the Sims when it first came out so yeah...

Then my sister's ex-boyfriend let me play Assassin's Creed and boom! Officially hooked forever!

 

My dad's old job was fixing computers, and one place he often worked was at a place where they had rentable lan parties (Alfatek or something). They also sold games and my dad bought Red Alert 2 and taught me to play. For years we would verse each other during the holidays and it's still one of my favourite games to date. I showed it to my school friends and they, inn turn, showed me other games from the command and conquer franchise. That's when I started to expand and get more games.

 

I have this extremely early memory of watching my older brother play Age of Empires 1 and one of the early Rayman games one day i took over one of his games when he had to do something and i enjoyed playing those games even if i had little to no idea what was going on.

 

My dad was big into video games and we used to play together quite a bit, so I imagine it was him that got me into them. I think my first console was the PS1 but I remember playing a few console games that don't seem very much like PS1 games, so perhaps there was another console I played on before that?
I wonder...

 

I got into video games by first playing with a friend's Pokémon Gold with their Gameboy Colour, then I got sucked into the vortex by playing Kingdom Hearts II on my cousin's Playstation 2 as well as Assassin's Creed II on my sister's TV with her at-the-time boyfriend's PS3.
