I always liked to read but I hadn't done it in a while. Now I find myself taking an hour long train trip once or twice a day, reading is almost a need. I assaulted my mom's classic book library and I've read Pygmalion and currently am reading To Kill A Mockingbird. Pygmalion was ok, I actually laughed a little on some parts, and thought the author was speaking truths in some others, but it wasn't great. I'm not done with TKaM but I'm really liking it so far. So what have you been reading or read recently?
I haven't been reading much like I used to lately, but I've been finishing the novel 'Cell' by Stephen King, started it a long time ago but kinda just stopped and picked it up again. Nearing the end now. It's not my among my favorite Stephen King books but it isn't bad, it's an interesting take on the over-done zombie genre. Starts off somewhat typical but develops in a way I think is unique for zombie-type story. Worth a read if you are a fan of King in general.
I enjoy re-reading books. Right now I'm rereading books by V.C. Andrews. Most of her books have twisted-but-great-to-read plots. Anyway, I'm back to reading Flowers in the Attic, the first book in her Dollanganger series. The plot is pretty fucked, but it's a great read! If you're going to read Flowers in the Attic, might as well finish the series! (If you want further details on Flowers in the Attic, let me know) Andrews died right after she finished the Dollanganger series, so her daughter continued writing books under her name. They're all good; but all the series she's written have similar plots All good reads, though.
A Storm of Swords I started reading A Game of Thrones just before the TV show started airing, but I'm just now on the third book. The first one was tough going because of all the characters. The second was tough going because it didn't really excite me. But this one is much more enjoyable, I think.
Reading a book often comes hard for me to do because I get bored with them. But.. a co-worker of mine had gotten me to read the "Harry Dresden Files." I'm on the 2nd one right now. It's pretty good~ He gets himself into a lot of trouble xD I also would like to find my other book that had i just bought (someone moved it and now it's MIA.) All I know that it's a 4th book to a dragon series someone did.
I mostly just read The Dresden Files. Okay...that's all I read...since I doubt Borderlands mini-comics count. :C Likely why a bit of Jim Butcher's writing style rubs off, on me. XD Recently finished Cold Days, though. Butcher, why?
like Jathemon I also read Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series and now anxiously await the next book. However like her I am very very well read and read a LOT of stuff. Currently I got some more of the Xanth series from Piers Anthony as well as Discworld books from Terry Pratchett. I'm a fan of British fantasy farce.
i've been re-reading "The last dog on earth" it quite good its about some dog sickness that ends up killing every dog and making them go mad, first the dogs would become all slow and sluggish then they'd fall asleep for a long time before they rise again as the mad dead dogs they are, kinda like a zombie virus but humans can get infested with it over time as the book continues. this boy adopts a wild dog that doesn't seem to be infested with it, name her Jack, and trains her. only to find that in the end she was immune to it and gets into a fight with an infected wild dog becoming seriously hurt and the boy rushes her to a hospital were they use her blood to make a cure for the sickness........but they can't save her from the injuries and she dies a hero. TT a very funny, adventurous, and sad book give it a try some time guys and gals. i promise you won't regret reading it.
I've been re-reading the "Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" series by Michael Scott. The Alchmyst, The Sorceress, The Magican, The Necromancer, The Warlock and the Enchantress. Really good books
"Brass Man" from Neal Asher. It was hard to understand (but not impossible) and flinally I found out that it is the third part of a series. Now I'm reading the first one: "Gridlinked" .
Finished with Cell (which had a very anticlimactic ending, wasn't very impressed with it) and I'm now reading "A Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cylinder". It's a very old novel from the 1880s. Four British yachtsmen find a copper cylinder in the ocean, and inside is a manuscript recounting the tale of a lost sailor who after passing through a sort of volcanic tunnel in the Southern ocean ends up in a "lost world" under Antarctica, where giant prehistoric plants and animals live, and the people there are backwards, loving death, hating life, and considering the poorest laborers to be the highest class while the richest and politically powerful the lowest. Basically accumulating wealth makes you lower in social standing in this world. The main story is what is on the manuscript, the yachtsmen who found it is a secondary plot. It's an interesting old fantasy novel, I'm about halfway through it.
I just finished The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky last night It was such a great book, in my opinion! It was in eye-opener in some ways... I really hope that whoever reads my post, will consider reading the book The book I'm going to start reading tonight is Pet Sematary by Stephen King. I really can't wait til Summer vacation from school, because then I will be able to read a lot more!
Like Degnne, I'm also reading the Song of Ice and Fire series at the moment. I heard about the show first, but wanted to read the book series first because the books are usually better in most cases (in my opinion), haha. Great books so far! I've also been reading Anne McCafferey's Dragonriders of Pern series off and on in between. I don't remember the titles of any I read recently offhand at the moment, but I could go check if anyone wants to know. xD Also highly recommended! And I know the first post was made some time ago, but TKaM was very good. I read it a long time ago and once I got past the first page, I enjoyed it a lot.
The last novel I read was Oryx And Crake by Margaret Atwood. So good, I had a book hangover afterwards. The last manga/comic I read was the last volume of Tegami Bachi + some anthologies from the comics degree at the nearest uni. Right now I'm (supposed to be) reading chemistry and biology books, since I finally managed to change my life and will start my BSc in September, but have to do a lot of background reading, because I was at art college before -_- Chemistry is interesting, but so is the internet
I've done nothing but read OFF fanfiction for the past two weeks I think I need help. Must stop won't stop But speaking of actual books I'm yet to start Realm of the Elderlings. Have Amber Room lying around as well, but meh it's Latvian translated and I'm not fond of reading in Latvian. Should finish the book anyway though, already got halfway. There was another sad story that's a true story from grandpas old books, should still be on the table waiting for me if I'm not mistaken.
Recently finished the sixth book of The Keys to the Kingdom series, I'll finish it when I can find the seventh Currently reading the Kane Chronicles Throne of Fire
I never ended up starting Pet Sematary by Stephen King. A couple days ago on Thursday I went to the library and got The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I started reading The Bell Jar the night I got it, and I'm still reading it. I may post again on this topic after I finish those two books to tell what new books I borrowed from the library.
I've just been doing a lot of rereading lately. Except right now I'm reading a new Erin Hunter book because I'm into that sort of thing... Yeah... xD
