I know the title is kind of silly, but bear with me!

I've heard many different opinions on this: Some say that literally anything could be art, while others have no problem criticizing artwork by saying it's not even art at all.

For example, I had a friend in high school who would say that some artists "don't even know what real art is". I've also heard some people say they don't consider a child's scribblings "true art", and I've heard some believe Jackson Pollock's work is "not actual art" because it is "just random splatters".

Contrarily, I've heard some people say that even something as simple as putting two things next to each other can be considered art.

So, what do you personally consider "real" art?

You mean, art should be a form of expression? Could you elaborate on your post a little more? o:

Lol. Art is simply a way to express something; a view, a thought, a memory, a message.
Art is expressing oneself visibly through different mediums.
The whole debate concerning what art is only due to the competitive and technical aspects.
Skill, imagination and technique - It's okay to judge those, but not the broad term of Art.
Good enough? My head doesn't seem to work fully.

Art can be anything. Music, graphics, painting, food, people materials ect. The beautiful thing about art is it can be so crazy and so bizarre and beautiful. Art is very debatable though, haha. I've heard people call porn art, which I strongly disagree with, where as a nude model could be considered art, as long as it's in taste.

I classify art as anything that please the 5 main senses. Music pleases you ears, paintings please your eyes, etc.

I also agree with you, @[member="Airenee"]

Aw man, I was going to do that!

To me, art is really anything creative that you can make or do. Be a painter? A musician? An actor? To at least a certain extent, you are contributing to the creative arts, and thus, an artist. Even if you're just trying something on a whim or just for funzies, you could very well be considered, at the moment you are working on your creation, an artist.
