Cores are Pokémon that synergize well with each other, in pretty much every aspect. This includes moves, typing, coverage, and usually stats. It all depends on the pokes. I love the common Lando-Heatran-RotomW core as to me it is extremely reliable in pretty much every aspect (minus Hazard removing) which I can add a poke such as Latios for. It is extremely bulky and covers both def and spdef, as well as weaknesses. It also provides intimidate to cripple physical attackers and momentum to be able to stay one step ahead of your opponents.

Venusaur-Mega/Heatran/LandoT basically covers most of the common metagame defensively (barring ghost/dark). Then you can build from there.
    Well... least for bulky offense.
Skarm/bliss or skarm/chansey can also be used as a strong defensive core due to what they do on each end.

Well...I don't have answer for that. I like fighting with all the Pokémon, so I use them in different ways. Your question is almost lik What Pokémon do you like?. I can give you an answer like this : My favorites cores are those that have a base in the triangles, why? because it reminds me the old games.

I think it really depends on what your fighting style is. If you prefer a heavily sweeper centered team then a speedy damage heavy set of Pokémon like charazard, dragonite and Gengar may be for you.

If you prefer to play the waiting game and bleed your opponent to death slowly then a bulky set like chansey, amungus and gliscor might be for you.
