We all have preferences for our forum avatars. Big icons, little icons, always having a border (me with white borders lately), animated .gifs, icons of our favorite anime characters or Pokémon, etc.. what types of avatars do you usually like to use? Or do you change it up?
I like a standard square. I used to prefer animated square ones but as I learned how to make my own static ones, I've stuck to those. I use characters that I can find a good render of and have moved away from Pokémon renders. I will change it up though every couple of months and see what I can cook up.
I change it up from time to time, but I enjoy gifs of anime or video games that I like. Or, for most of the sites I go on now, I use artwork that I made myself-usually based off of anime or video games that I like, or of my OC, Shadria. I'm thinking about changing this one sometime in the near future.
I've always just used a cropped version of my signature. I'm way too lazy to think of something else to put there.
It entirely depends. Usually my icons are really aesthetic and pastel, but I couldn't find a good icon to use here, so I just chose the yelling Junkrat.
i like to use art of the anime / manga i like! it doesn’t have to be my art, it can be art i find online / get from my friends / commissions etc!
Pretty much this. In the current case, it's an artwork done of Kanji and Naoto in their Christmas outfits from Persona 4 Golden. Thought it fitting given the season, and they're one of my favorite anime/game couples. In my previous case (for the Halloween season), it's an actual screenshot from one of the early moments of Persona 4, where the MC and Yosuke are confronted by Yosuke's Shadow (hence the yellow eyes), which I thought was good since the one before that was of the regular Yosuke, in the same scene.
I like anime pictures as well, but Eevee is one of the ones that is always an option for me. Usually I choose a character whose game I’m obsessed with at the time. Like recently, I was Sora from Kingdom Hearts (and I love the game so much). I try to look them up in anime style, hahaha. Also, sometimes I like to use my own stuff, but not very often.
I usually used commisioned art of all styles but I dont have anything good for the holidays so I make due
I always have the picture of Serena in my avatars, always. I love her so much and her outfit after she chopped her hair looks so cute and cool! That's probably the main reason I always, yes always, keep her edited or simple picture as my avatar.
I like to pick avatars that fit the theme of the forum, but I don't like changing up my avatar. Maybe if I commission some art, I'll change my avatar to the art I commissioned. I don't change it up primarily because I have no reason to. Places where I keep a Pokémon theme, I generally use this profile pic but in other places, I use a snap shot from the Pokémon manga.
I always make my own avatars, as probably most of you are aware. There are a few very small exceptions, but whenever that happens, the signature tends to not match the avatar at all. (Standardly, I make a signature for myself, and then make a corresponding avatar out of the finished signature.) I did request another banner twice from somebody else here, and that turned out nicely! However, more often than not, I make my own. Call it a dragon's pride. The avatars themselves are always square, no exceptions. Occasionally there will be a circle overlay over one of them to give the illusion that it's round, but the extra space outside is usually just light or filtered out, never gone. Rectangles don't really work due to how they're scaled down. A border of some type is also generally standard, usually a colour blurred in to transition seeming out of (not into) the background around it - or to accentuate the colours in the edges already. As for the characters therein, two-thirds of the time it will be a dragon, and rather obviously so. The other one-third of the time it could be absolutely anything, with no solid theme between them. But regardless of whoever or whatever the subject is, I make it so that creating the avatar/signature is always a fun and enjoyable process.
I usually pick a character I like and make them my icon. I used to edit my icons, but now I draw them because that's more original. Almost all of the time my drawing for avatars are standalone (not a cropped part of a bigger piece of art), but sometimes I like a piece so much I crop it and make that an icon.
i want to use lewds but in most places that's frowned upon so i usually gravitate towards homestuck trash
I use avatars of my favorite characters from anime, video games, cartoons and animated movies (I very rarely use real humans/creatures/objects as my avatar) Or I use red haired characters I find aesthetically pleasing even if I haven't seen what they're from. I almost always use a humanoid avatar but will occasionally use an animal/Pokémon type creature. I've been sticking to female characters but I sometimes I will use a male.
My only preference is whether or not I think it suits or describes me in some way. My current avi suits me because I like power rangers and it's Christmas time. My last one was the mark of the character that my current username is based off of. Things like that.
My avatar always has to be kawaii in my opinion. Whether it be a pixel, static image, or gif.... the kawaii is always a must.
