Pokémon Anime what would you say is Ash's dumbest moment?

dumb as a rational human being?
-Touching a ancient Pokéball that he was told to not touch as it housed a 'ancient beast Pokémon' and ended up possessed by a evil human spirit
-Attempting to take on many villainous groups alone (Team Rocket, Aqua, Magma, Galactic, ect) even though they have done many dangerous, near (if not exactly) terrorist attacks involving BOMBS in public areas and weapons that can cause bodily harm on others (some season 1 episodes do feature guns, and the machines they get do sometimes show cannons/gun barrels even today)

dumb as a trainer?
-Having Pikachu use THUNDER into the sky for it to fall back onto his SWELLOW while it was doing Sky Attack. Total insanity how that 'Thunder Shield' attack thing worked out..
-Attempting to take on Elesa with just Palpitoad (even though he..'thought out a plan' all night long)

 

I stopped watching the Pokémon anime at around Sinnoh, but honestly, any moment he had with Torterra. Poor thing lost every battle it was in ;_____;

 

Pretty much every moment after Johto...

and half of the moments in Kanto and Orange Islands.

 

There really isn't a single moment that I would call as "dumbest" for Ash, but one category of those "dumbest" moments that really sticks out is whenever Ash sends out Pikachu or any of his other Pokémon to battle an opponent that has a clear advantage over whatever Pokémon Ash is using (including using Pikachu to battle a Ground-type).

 

Not really dumb, but I never really understood why Ash had to catch a Palpitoad in the BW anime. Like, that's a really weird/obscure middle stage to add to your team, and tbh, it didn't see a lot of action from what I remember... >_>

 

Besides every moment in XY(Z)?

In every movie, he always seems so surprised that (insert legendary Pokémon of the movie here) can talk through telepathy, yet he's heard like over ten Pokémon do so beforehand. I don't think it's that surprising anymore.

 

Ash telling his Charizard to use Tackle...
...even though none of the Charmander evolution line can learn Tackle.

 

When he got his butt kicked by a Snivy that had its first battle. All those years of experience and Ash suddenly becomes below par with a new trainer smh...

 

Um back in Kanto he shouldn't have reentered Sabrina's gym without doing exactly what Sabrina's father advised. Actually capturing a ghost Pokémon in Lavender town and then going in again.

 

I think his dumbest moment was releasing pidgeot to protect the forest and never returning back for it, even though he said he would have.

 

Thunder Armour. It doesn't make sense fom ANY angle you look at it! Why would Thunder do that? Did Ash know Thunder would come back from the sky? WTF?!

That one was particularly terrible, but seemingly necessary given that the B/W series was marketed as a "reboot" of sorts.

 

Constantly falling for Team Rocket's disguises. Seriously, how has he not figured it out yet?

 

I have re-watched the series up to early parts of Sinnoh some months ago. I catalogued each episode. I wrote all my thoughts on them. I will go through and find the most infuriating thing Ash has ever did that I know of.

My judgement, is that the pikachu-swellow thunder armor bull? not the stupidest thing. Sure its up there, its ridiculous, but its a single instance of stupidity. No when I think of Ash's stupidest moment, its something far earlier, and more basic.

The moment is: Not getting Charizard under control for the Indigo League. why is this stupider? Because here, Ash KNOWS that Charizard does not obey him. He KNOWS that he can't rely on this guy. He KNOWS this. What does he do? Procrastinate and screw around for months ignoring real training. For things like dealing some weird giant artifact Pokémon or going to see the play of a failing movie director. This is encapsulated in that single moment where Charizard lazes in front of everyone in the League and refuses to fight for absolutely no good reason that costs Ash the entire League and sets him on this path of constant repeated failure.

And this is not some weird out of nowhere event, this is not some improbable decision, anyone watching those episodes can predict this happening easily, anyone with a brain can see this coming miles away. and Ash just failed to see it. The problem is, this isn't some advanced trainer problem or anything that he could never see coming. Getting Pokémon to obey you, is a basic trainer skill, its a bare bones thing you need to achieve for anything to happen at all. And Ash, didn't lift a single finger of effort to do that with Charizard at that point. This is supposed to be the trainer that loves and cares for a tight team of Pokémon, who has a close bond with the few Pokémon he has, the trainer who is supposed to care about nothing but battling and becoming a Pokémon master. He has gathered eight badges and should know what he is doing in some manner.

and what does he do? Completely fail at this most basic trainer skill, when its most important, when he should be the exact kind of guy who doesn't fail at that. Completely fail when it was completely preventable, completely predictable, and completely vital for what he does Every. Single. Day. To me, that is Ash's dumbest moment.

I mean at least in other moments, his Pokémon obeyed and trusted him.

They make Ash seem super weak which is so dumb, like i get he has to grow but still he's a strong trainer.

 

Honestly the anime would do much better if he was way too OP like Kirito.

For me its every time he fails to catch Dunsparce.
