What's the minimum amount of sleep you need to function throughout the day?

    I only need two to three hours, assuming I get Starbucks.

    I understand that this is not healthy, but I'm not a person that needs a lot of sleep to begin with. 8D What about you guys??

    My absolute minimum is a requirement of five hours. Of course, going that low always carries with it associated health risks, and this doesn't happen unless I go to bed really late, or have to wake up really early (or both, which is usually the case; if I wake up early I usually sleep early as well).
    To be normally functional, I only require seven hours. I tend to get more than this usually, though I like to trim down the number of hours I spend asleep, but my circadian rhythm is extremely strong so it isn't that prone to change. I go where it takes me.

    I probably only need about four hours (super healthy, i know.) to be normally functioning, anything under that is bare minimum functionality. My sleep schedule is super over the place, so it's pretty random I guess?

    Also the longer I sleep the prior night, the longer I can go on the next day. An example of that would be this summer I almost pulled an all nighter (i wasnt very emotionally stable that night and i was overwhelmed to say the least) but I gave up at 5am. I then proceeded to sleep until 2pm.

    So minimum? Four hours probably. Favored? all day 9 or more.

    I genuinely feel like anyone who's a college/university student is/should be pretty used to having around 4 or 5 hours lmao.

    You say that, but I've never done an 'all-nighter' in my life, nor have I really needed to.

    After a certain amount of time awake (which I think is about 18 hours), my body will effectively 'shut down' and refuse to do anything, thus mandating sleep. This tends to happen close to midnight, though it can vary based on when I woke up. Even if I pushed myself past midnight here, it wouldn't pass very far after.

    Come to think of it, the only times I've had only 5 hours of sleep was when I had to take people to the airport, or had to go there myself. Otherwise it has always been at least 6.5 (and if it ends up like that, I push myself to 7).

    I say that mostly because most college-aged people that I know seem to have the biggest issue sleeping and it's almost always as a result because of class stress than anything else (myself included when I attended classes). @_@

    My minimum is 2 to 3 hours, I find I work well with less sleep on occasion. I usually only do that if I really cant sleep or have a big paper due the next day/in the morning.

    I need a minimum of 4 hours. I tend to get 5 or 6, but if I get anything over 6 I tend to suffer more than if I had slept too little. That said, I have a fairly good sleep schedule - I can fall asleep and wake up almost on cue.

    That's a bit of it, but for me it's my sleep apnea. I don't fall completely asleep for the whole length of time that I am unconscious because my airways are constricted - not to the point of choking, but my body stirs just enough that I don't stay in REM sleep for long.

    I have never gotten less than 7 hours of sleep in my life so I have no idea what the minimum is for me. I strictly adhere to my personal scheduled which is why, even though I am in college, I stay asleep so long.

    The least amount of sleep I've ever gotten was around five-ish hours, but I can bet that if you fully "wake me up" I can go literally with a few hours.

    During a band trip my freshman year, however, I managed to pull an all-nighter since we had to be there at like 2am to go to the airport and throughout the whole forty hours I remember (of the morning I got up on December 27, 2015 to falling asleep in Phoenix at around midnight the 29th), I only took two hour hour naps. So I guess two? It was not fun. Jet lag sucks.

    I can function on about 4 hours of sleep, but I much rather get a full 7-8 hours. I used to be unable to sleep through the night and would wake every hour or so to fail to fall asleep again. But recently I got a new pillow that seems to help.

    I've pulled a lot of all nighters throughout my lifetime lol. However... I prefer to get more sleep. Ideally I'd love to get around 10 hours daily but that doesn't happen often. I think in terms of a minimum, maybe 4 hours of sleep? I can last on that for a while, but even so I'd want to sleep more at some point.

    I'm one of those people who panics when they have to get up early and end up being really responsible about bedtime. But I've found that I have quite a few strange windows of sleep (note that some of these are untested and I sure hope I don't have to test them):

    1-3 hours: likely groggy, but functional
    4-5 hours: ahh too little sleep, body will now shut down
    6 hours: perfect. Super awake, woo
    7-8 hours: sleepy, but not dramatically so unless it's for about three days in a row (that has been tested every day since school)
    9-10 hours: also perfect
    11-12 hours: perfect for half of the day, groggy 1/4 of the day, okay until around midnight when I shut down again
