What's the point of fly?

Fly is there because there are some routes and areas you can't get to with soar. Also it is a little bit faster to use fly, because you don't have to go through as many mini-animations.

 

Fly is a faster, and less complicated way to go to the locations you want to. Sometimes finding a specific route to fly to could be a bit annoying to do with Soaring since sometimes the bottom view gets cut off, so using fly would save more time if you don't want to go through all of the animation and manual controls.

 

Sometimes you get tired of flying on the same Pokémon's back. You have to switch it up sometimes

 

I've been using Fly for a while now and haven't gotten the flute yet (I'm in Mossdeep), so there's that. And as others said - having to soar every single time you want to fly somewhere might get irritating. I'm personally glad there's an option for both.

 

Is useful an fast, the answer is simple xD

 

The animation for soaring takes a while so its quicker to just fly.

 

Like the posts above, Fly is faster. I personally mainly use it to get around secret bases quickly, and is a little easier to navigate. Don't get me wrong, soaring is a lot of fun and is really pretty, but keeping it a little basic isn't such a bad thing!

 

Eliminating Fly would be like eliminating an essential part of Pokémon. Everybody knows Fly and they grow to look forward to gaining it so that transportation becomes easier.

 

The Eon Flute is just there to serve as an extra mechanic, so I don't think that they went it as a replacement for fly, which is why fly still exists.

 

Yeah, the whole thing is that Soar is more so for fun and to help you encounter various things only accessible through such a new mechanic, whereas Fly is more quick and convenient if you want to get somewhere asap. Personally, I use Soar myself and haven't used Fly in a long time, but if you don't have all the names of areas memorized...well, Fly will also help you avoid a lot of confusion quicker too. lol

 

The new soaring feature does look pretty awesome

 

You can't fly to routes/areas Secret Bases, Berries, Pokémon, or Trainers are in via the MapNav using the Eon Flute, silly as it seems. You also don't have to worry about wild Pokémon encounters (though those are rare and fairly easy to avoid), and, as most have said, it's a lot quicker and easier (and is accessible earlier in the game than the Eon Flute is). The only thing Fly can't do is access Mirage Spots, but that's the main reason the Eon Flute is there. It all boils down to one's preference.

 

Soaring may be fun the first few times, but after a while, you just prefer the fast way around, so you use Fly. But I will probably keep using the soaring mechanic because I am too lazy to catch a Pokémon that can learn Fly xD

 

It's nice to be able to fly places quickly while cutting out extra animations but soaring is also a great little thing for those who want a more immersive view of Hoenn.. plus wonderful to utilize if you're like me and find the Fly HM to be a waste of an attack slot (boo spending one turn to "charge.") I've been soaring in ORAS a lot more lately and really do enjoying going through the region even if it is as small as it is. Great to no longer need a flyer in my party.

 

I actually haven't used fly even once, nor have I needed to. Soaring was so useful, and awesome. I'm so glad they included that as a feature as it's honestly one of the reasons this game stands out as a remake.

 

Fly is there to be what it was in previous games- to transport you to a town or route instantly. Soaring is really cool, but for people who just want to get from one place to another as fast as possible, Fly still serves a lot of purpose.

 

My view on soar: only useful for transportation when i want to go somewhere, but don't want Pelipper on my team for some odd reason. Like when i was getting Regis, i used soar so i could replace one with Wailord and another with Relicanth.
