I have a personal preference for spy, war and some sci-fi. That doesn't mean I won't enjoy a good comedy or thriller film though.
Mystery and comedy (though I can't stand stupid-humor like Scary Movie or Spongebob). I cannot watch horror (though I may make an exception for the FNaF movie, if/when it comes out, because I'm invested in the lore); saw Final Destination once and it gave me nightmares for a month.
I like comedy and scifi/fantasy. I don't mind trillers and horrors either (though they rarely scare me).
There are three types of films I like, complex warfare, accurate scifi and magic fantasy. I love a complex plot and warfare is the perfect place for complex narratives. A good example would be code geass, a complex warfare type story that has larger elements thrown in. That is the kind of warfare movie I like. I hate when scifi obviously hasn't done there home work. I can mostly look past things that we haven't discovered yet (like dark matter), but things like traveling faster than the speed of light? That's just not possible, and I'm the kind of person who can't turn their brain off when they watch a show. magical fantasy because who doesn't love a good escape? Seriously though, I love trying to wrap my head around the new rules of a different world. Its like a fun exercises for my brain and its something I very much enjoy.
Comedy, Fantasy and...hmm is Family one? Romance is alright as long as it just isn't there to be there and is actually build up in a way that feels natural. And not "person meets/runs into this person and suddenly falls in love"
