Every gen has a different dex design, seems old Oak can't really decide which is better, even in generations that happen during the same time (Like Gen I and Gen III).

What's your favorite Pokédex design, both in hardware and in software?
Here's some pics of the outside of the dexes, if anyone has a handy link with their interfaces please provide it to me through PM :)

    Johto (Gen II)

    Johto (Gen IV)

    Unova

    Kalos

Personally, I really like the Unova dex's design, if you pay attention to the picture you can tell it snaps/extends very smartly. Although I do dislike the fact that both Unova and Kalos' dexes remove the characteristic blue circle/lens that all previous pokédex designs shared. Maybe it was a tool to recognize what Pokémon was being examined?

And, interface-wise, not including Kalos since I haven't had the pleasure of playing gen VI yet, my favorite has to be the HeartGold/SoulSilver dex, with its little square cells for each Pokémon, rather than the typical list. I also disliked LeafGreen/FireRed's interface a lot, it was an unnecessary and, in my opinion, rather cumbersome change.

I think Gen IV is my favorite. I haven't played any Pokémon games in a few months.

I like Johto dexes the best. They both look compact and portable. One's just an older version of the other so I rate them together.

Kanto and Hoenn don't get dual screens (gotta love thos dual screens~). Hoenn, Kanto gen III and Sinnoh's are too awkwardly shaped to be practical (not a fan of round bottoms and sides). Unova's reminds me of one of those old slide out phones and also looks like the gen 5 digivice (idk what came first). Kalos is a giant ass, extremely fragile looking tablet. I can't imagine carrying that with me everywhere I went across a country @_@

Interface wise I'd give it to sinnoh simply because that Pokéball spin dial on the touch screen had me entertained for ages back in the day XD

I like the Gen V Poke'Dex. It looks like it's somewhere between one of those old slider phones and an iPod touch.

I agree with what Kuroida said about the Kalos dex though. It does look like you'd drop it once and have to go running back to the Professor for a new one.

I haven't had access to any Pokémon game recently, but Kalos's seems pretty cool. Though in a real life situation it probably wouldn't be a good choice at all like other people said above since it seems fragile as heck.

May I add I love the detail you put in to this post? But anyways, for me, it's gotta be Kalos. I love the simple, yet futuristic design of it. It's really easy to navigate through too and doesn't have too many redundant features.

I like the Sinnoh Pokédex the best because it kinda looks like a DS.

I'd have to go for the Kalos dex as well; It looks so easy to use! (that, and it looks epic as f*ck)

Hardware wise, it's the Kalos Pokédex. It seems pretty handy and compfortable to hold.
Software wise, It's the Sinnoh Pokédex. I loved mixing the cries of Pokémon when I first played the game, and I also like the colours they choose for the interface.

My favorite Pokédex design would have to be the Kalos Pokédex for the sheer size of it, and the fact that it looks cool. Granted, all the pokedexs look pretty cool in their own right, I just prefer Gen 6's so far.
