I prefer listening to my tunes while drawing, typically an album of music that helps set the scene. But that's just me.
Depends on what it is for. For schoolwork I usually prefer it quiet, but if I'm doing creative work I like to pair a theme with what I'm working on to help me focus on it.
I like to listen to music, but not my usual heavy metal: it can't have any words. To accommodate this need, I've found a few youtube channels that post 1-3 hour long compilations of dramatic, cinematic music. Things you would hear in movie backgrounds or trailers. This way the vocabulary of the music doesn't influence me as much, but I can still have some emotional input as I write.
I listen to music while drawing. In fact it is probably the only thing that gives me the motivation to draw in the first place. For writing though I don't really listen to anything because I find it can be a bit distracting. If I do have music on it is usually some sort of cinematic music, or something quiet and without any vocals.
When writing, I always need music, so I tend to put on a vaporwave hour long mix and go on from there. Otherwise, I can't focus properly. Everything else, I don't mind silence. But outside noise in general when I'm working on something- people talking, a TV on, etc- it's just too much of a distraction. Drives me insane.
While drawing I prefer to have music playing, but when I'm writing it has to be in silence. I have trouble doing either when there's voices in the background, or when someone's watching me do it.
For 4 years, in highschool, my art teacher played music/the radio and let students play their own music on rare occasions every day. Now I can't really concentrate on art without music or something in the background. I usually keep the music relating to the art idea I have in mind- if it's Pokémon related, I'm gonna play a couple of Pokémon music; if it's something horror related I'm going to pull up scary songs or horror movie music.
I tend to work in silence. Due to over stimulation issues, the only way for me to focus and get my thoughts down on paper is in a quite room. However, when I'm building a particular scene, I may want to play music that fits the tone. It helps my mind flow in a way that can't be done in silence.
When I draw things I know will take a while to do, I usually pull up a chill music mix video as it really helps me focus and the chill mood of the music is just relaxing to have because art can get frustrating sometimes. When I write, I almost always write in silence because the sound of the keyboard to me is strangely more effective as an ambiance than music. The rare times I do listen to music when writing it has to be purely instrumental as I could accidentally write the words I'm hearing instead of what I'm thinking of.
Music and normally something without lyrics if I am writing. I try to match the mood of what I am doing as well so when writing Pokémon fiction I would put on adventurous and upbeat soundtracks like the Bastion OST or the various fantasy soundtracks found on youtube. When doing something more somber I will switch to something like the Game of Thrones soundtracks.
I usually can't work on art and stuff in complete silence for some reason??? When I draw I'll usually set up a stream and let it play while I listen, and when I write I'll find playlists without lyrics and work while listening to that. I mean I can do stuff in silence but I prefer something to fill the silence because it gets kinda lonesone sometimes...
I always listen to some sort of music when working on... well... anything. Silence starts bugging me reeeaaaal quick. I need white noise to really concentrate.
I prefer to have music on when I'm writing or drawing, but contrary to the general consensus here, I pretty much always listen to music with vocals, and the music I'm listening to usually has no correlation to what I'm writing or drawing. I go through musical phases so I just put on whatever's making me feel creative at the moment. I can write and draw in silence fine, of course, but I much prefer having music on (possibly because I'm an obsessive multitasker).
There has to be noise when I"m drawing. If I'm alone I'm listening to music or watching a movie. If I'm drawing with my friend irl I usually talk to her. I can't stand it being quiet when I'm working on something.
When drawing on computer, music really helps me I think. But traditional? Honestly I can't even recall, I don't really pay attention if I talk to myself or not, but I think I don't need music as much? I dunno.
I prefer listening to music, but sometimes if I'm really into what I'm doing, the music will stop and I won't even notice for a while.
