Here is the worldwide debate, (Although generation 6 is out) Generation 1 vs. Generation 5! Newbies vs. Genwunners!

I personally like Generation 5 more, its game mechanics are fun and the Pokémon roster is really good, with barely any Pokémon that I actually hate, and yes, not even Garbodor and Vanilluxe are bad in my eyes. But then again, I didn't have my glasses on while making this, so who knows. :P

Generation 5 for me. Garbodor is actually one of my favorite Pokémon and in general I like the Gen 5 Pokémon a lot more than Gen 1 Pokémon. There are just so many cool Pokémon in Gen 5 despite what people say. I started in Gen 3 so I also have no nostalgia when it comes to Gen 1.

I like Gen 1 better because of nostalgia. I grew up playing the older games since I was around three years old (basically when gen 3 was already out) because my family was pretty poor at the time so I would always play my brother's game. Gen 1 was also a little more challenging because how TMs worked as well as the limited space in your bag and not to mention how op some of the Pokémon were. Gen 5 was a little less memorable for me because I never really liked the Pokémon as much, and I basically breezed through it.

Generation 5. I never really had much nostalgia for Generation 1 as I don't think I've ever actually completed it before. I was quite young and confused about certain concepts of Pokémon the last time I played it, thus making me frustrated, bored and unable to appreciate it fully. While playing Generation 5, I already had a better understanding of how to properly train a full team of Pokémon as well as knew how things worked, knew where to go, and was able to understand the storyline much better as compared to younger me.

For me i have to say Gen 5 since im more familiarized with the game than Gen 1.

It had a lot of things i liked it, like the plot, the fun places like in Nimbasa City.
Also it had great Pokémon that i still like Musharna and Lilligant.
I don't know what had the people against Vanilluxe(i find it cute).

Generation 1. I admit, I never really got to play an original Gen 1 game. I got to play Fire Red though, and even though it's a Gen 2 game, I still enjoyed it better than Gen 5. And besides, nothing beats the original, in my opinion.

Gen 1 wouldn't be as good, if it wasn't gen 1 imo, so I'm definitely going for gen 5 on this one.

I say gen 5. I didn't play gen 1, so it doesn't hold nostalgia value for me. It also didn't have the split with attack and special attack that gave the game more strategy and variation. Even worse, some of my favorite types (ghost, dragon, and steel) were either stupidly rare or didn't even exist. So yeah, gen 5 for me!

I think I would say gen 5 as I did enjoy that generation mostly because it had much more mechanics to it and it was one of the Pokémon games with most plot

Gen 5 actually, because I liked the plots a lot! I do like Gen 1 as well though!

Gen V had a lot more awesome Pokémon in it (Zoroark, Chandelure) and as mentioned before, if Gen I wouldn't have been the first generation, it would suck really bad. If you look at it, the Gen I Pokémon really aren't all that creative, while Gen V really had some special ones!

I don't have anything against Gen V or the Pokémon in it but Gen 1 and 2 are my favorites without a doubt. I'm sure it's probably because I started with Pokémon Yellow and the original Pokémon anime and it absolutely defined my life when I was a kid. There is something about the atmosphere of the first generations that just can't be emulated. Plus, all the Gen 1 Pokémon are classic. Gen V Pokémon have a different style that doesn't appeal as much to me for some reason.

Is this even a contest, though? Gen 5 blows Gen 1 out of the water, any day. And heck, I'm no newbie. Gen 1 was my first game in the series and I played it for hours and hours, but there is obviously very little comparison with Gen 1 and Gen 5.

I prefer 5 without a doubt. A lot of the Pokémon introduced in Unova grew to be favorites of mine, plus it had Cilan/N.. the region overall was awesomely-designed, too. Playing through B/W(w) were some of the best experiences with Pokémon for me. :'3 The first generation's only really good for the nostalgia factor so I can't place it above the fifth.

Gen 5. I just really enjoyed the story a lot. Sure Gen 1 was nice but I don't think its story will ever beat Gen 5.

Can I pick both? I really like both although gen 5's story is better. But is hard to really pick one of them for me, but if I absolutely have to pick one for the sake of this thread I would probably pick gen 5 as of right now.

What kind of a question is this for me, Generation V :P Granted, Generation I did introduce Pokémon to us all, but Generation V made Pokémon feel quite innovative, with BW taking what Generation I was and being the new RBY, except in a newer system.

Never played Gen V (No 3DS), so I have to stick with Gen 1. It gave us Pokémon, so I think I'll keep to the originals.

Gen V is on the Ds, not the 3ds.

Anyways, I definetly prefer Generation 5 because it brings forth some amazing game mechanics and some really cool Pokémon. I know Generation 1 has some highlights and such, but Generation 5 might be my favorite generation. We've got Escavalier, Leavanny, Krookodile, Serperior, Scrafty, Braviary and a whole bunch of other Pokémon that outclass most Generation 1 Pokémon (except Aerodactyl).

Hard decision, but I would have to pick Gen 5.
